Download Section Restructuring

The downloads section is now being restructured. Filenames are all being templated and certain mods are moving around categories. From the example below you can see how all files will be renamed. Some other examples are, "COI_CommonwealthSummer_v8.4_installer.zip", & "TLD_AlliedVetmod_v1.0_installer.zip". The FTP Section is also being restructured to mirror the website, login and view the CC5 folder to see how its being done. Modding Tools will be renamed to thier application name, or best description if there isnt one. All Mac files will retain their original names.

Cross of Iron Patch 3.50.01

Matrix Games has made the 3.50.01b patch released back in 2009. The new version is simple 3.50.01 and you can download it direct from Matrix Games or CCS (6.5mb). All current Campaigns and Operations will be compatible and you can install the new patch over the previous beta path without consequences. Some of the changes to the official patch are BHQ updates and Command Center URL changes. Ensure you read the readme.pdf file as it will not overwrite the previous one or add it to your start menu links. Mod Swap is also updated, but remains version 1.0.

Before installing this patch ensure you uninstall all mods including the MMCC3 client mod. None of the fixes in the readme.pdf file that details changes to the cc3.exe will be present in any mods that modify the cc3.exe. For example, the Der Ost Front mod has a cc3.exe included that was modded with the original version of the cc3.exe, it will not contain the fixes.

MMCC3 Bloody Omaha Updated & Last Stand Arnhem Patch

The MMCC3 Bloody Omaha beta test has an update. Open up Modswap, uninstall the original version of the client and delete it. Download the updated client and unzip it to the C:/Program Files/Close Combat/plugins folder. Open up modswap and install. You will have to enter in IP 64.111.28.17 and port 2108. The server has been restarted so you will be starting over again. The changes are, less points/barrages/reinforcements available, rarity tweaked so you will see Pershing tanks and other equipment that doesnt match the time period and you should not see British, FJ or SS troops. If you find and bugs please report them to the BO Beta Test thread.

The bug reports have been pouring in for Last Stand Arnhem since day one of the release. There is a patch already in the works to fix some very obvious bugs that made it through the beta testing. The LSA Forum at Matrix has the details. Expect the laundry list of bugs to grow and even more bugs and inconsistencies were found today...

Close Combat Player's News - July 16th, 2010

Matrix Games has released Last Stand Arnhem. You can purchase it now from Digital River for USD $39.99 or €32.99. From Matrix's description, "Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases." There is a collection of screenshots in the LSA Gallery taken mainly from Gary Childress' AAR over at Matrix Games.

A patch has been released for The Longest Day bring it to version 5.50.09b. It’s a quite a long list of changes and fixes. Most notably the cohesion factor has been worked on. Battle groups that previously did not regain cohesion overnight should now (if not engaged), post battle disbands of battle groups with low cohesion no longer happen and if a battle group is tossed off the map in mere minute, their cohesion drop will not be so drastic anymore. Visit this link, TLD Patch to download the patch and read the full list of changes.

Boot Camp #4 Indirect Fire

Indirect fire to Close Combat is equally as important as directed fire. All weapons that fire HE rounds have a blast radius, which means near misses cause injuries and death. Armour piercing rounds also result in near miss kills but the effect is minimized. Indirect fire comes in most useful when you see where an enemy is, but you cannot target him yet either by blocked LOS or your men just haven’t spotted them yet. High explosives will do the job, and at the very least they will suppress your opponent and force him to move. Let’s go over a few ways you can provide indirect fire...

Flame tanks need only to score near misses to inflict casualties. A massive morale drop is also inflicted on survivors. Flame attacks can be followed up on very quickly by infantry assaults. The flame attacks put the opponent’s soldiers in a state of shock, unable to move quick enough to counter any attack. The flame tank alone driving to your opponent’s position will most likely make him relocate.

For the two man flame teams, it’s wise to leave them on ambush if not confronting the enemy at the beginning of the game, and I mean at the 1st second! If you do suspect a large concentration of enemy soldiers in a particular spot upon the timer starting, have your flamers force fire into that direction, keep a command team within its radius to give the team a boost. Flamers within engineer sections do not work as well with this technique. If you force fire an engineer team they will also lob a bundle of dynamite, suppressing and even killing your own men at close range.
