Changing sides using a HEX Editor

Here is a very simple set of instructions to HEX edit your GC file to switch
sides. There are only a few reasons to switch sides. You may want to view your
online opponents or AI's positions and support, or for when you have downloaded
the wrong side of a file.

STEP 1

  • Download and install this free HEX Editor from HHD Software here -> http://www.hhdsoftware.com/Family/hex-editor.html.
Any HEX Editor will do it, this one is easy to use and is freeware.

    STEP 2

  • Once installed, run the program. Click on file, and open. Find the GC file
    you wish to HEX edit.

    STEP 3

  • View the very 1st line and the 1st two numbers (circled area). These two
numbers are what determines whether the Germans or the Allies host the game. Changing
the value to 00 will make it an Allied hosted GC, 01 will make
    it hosted by the Germans.

    STEP 4

  • Save and close the file. You are now ready to play the opposite side.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
