The
PaK 43 actually began its inception as an anti-aircraft gun in the Gerät
42 project. Due to design limitations the project was eventually canceled.
The designs from the former endeavor were funneled into the creation of
an anti-tank weapon. The end result being the PaK 43. After the war, British
engineers examined its unique semi-automatic loading system. It was their
hope that a similar mechanism could be adapted to British designs. However,
the investigation found that the tolerances of German engineering could
not be replicated in British armories.
Similar in
abilities to the 8.8cm Flak, the PaK 43 should be used in much the same
manner. When used in the defensive roll, place it in a position with a clear
line of sight to likely avenues of approach. When used offensively, it is
more important to place it in an area with a commanding view of the battlefield.
