Entering
production in June of 1939, this heavier cousin of the SdKfz 250 was designed
as a troop carrier that could deploy with tanks. The resulting SdKfz 251
chassis was essentially an armored body mounted on a medium half-track chassis.
By the end of the war over 4,600 units were produced.
This
is one of the most common chassis that you
will see in your battlegroups. While each is based on the same basic design,
each has its own set of strengths.
The most devastating in overall capabilities is the Rocket Carrier. Firing
just one round into a small or medium building will kill or incapacitate
roughly seventy percent of the soldiers inside. Keep in mind that since
this is an indirect fire weapon that line of sight is not required to fire.
The biggest drawback to this platform is that once it fires six rounds,
it has to reload. This takes at least twenty minutes.
An unlikely favorite is the Flame Carrier. Its tongue of flame can engage
in all directions and destroy almost any target. The limitation of a seventy
meter range is more than offset by a high rate of fire. The weapon needs
only about two seconds to cool between firings. Get this monster in close
and you will do well. The trick is getting it safely there.
When you need anti-tank support in close quarters, the AT Carrier is a valuable
weapon. Its greatest weakness is its thin armor. When you engage armored
units make sure that you do so at very close ranges. In most cases you'll
only get one chance to incapacitate your target, and you don't want to be
around when it returns fire.
The Mortar Carrier is best deployed to the rear of your lines in good cover,
preferably in heavily wooded areas or behind buildings. With seventy-five
rounds of high explosive you should be able to keep constant pressure on
Allied infantry. Remember that a suppressed enemy is just as ineffective
as a dead one is.
Both the HMG and IG Carriers are adapted to the engagement of infantry units.
Never bring these out in the open when enemy armor is present. Once the
field is clear of armor, roll these out to hunt down infantry teams. Be
especially wary of ambushes when moving in wooded areas. This crew doesn't
have the high perception values of regular foot soldiers.
