Name: Medium Assault Gun Turret Class: Closed Top Turret Type: Fixed Crew: 4 Speed: 24 mph (40 km/h) Weight: 52,580 lb. (23,900 kg) Engine: Maybach HL120 TRM Schürzen: Yes
The
StuH 42 was produced primarily because it was felt that the 7.5cm gun of
the StuG III was no longer adequate. Production for the StuH 42 began in
October 1942, and entered service in March 1943. These vehicles served primarily
to enhance tank defense.
Because
of its slow speed and fixed turret, the StuH 42 is best used in the infantry
support roll. Putting these out on the prowl against a superior number of
inferior vehicles will ruin your day. The best way to use these units is
to first have your infantry scout out a setup position. Once secured, move
the StuH 42 in position. From here it can provide suppressing fire for advancing
infantry teams.
