Unit Guide - German Tiger1

gerTigerI

Battlegroup Name: Heavy Tank
Turret Class: Closed Top
Turret Type: Rotating
Crew: 5
Speed: 23 mph (38 km/h)
Weight: 110,000 lb. (50,000 kg)
Engine: Maybach HL 230, 694 hp, gasoline
Schürzen: No

The original design inception of the Tiger called for a tank that could penetrate 100mm of armor at 1,500 meters, and still able to withstand a direct hit from a comparable weapon. It was this tank that was to serve as the spearhead of the German army. However, even with a 694 horsepower engine, the Tiger could only manage a maximum speed of 23 miles per hour. A victim of its own weight and size, the Tiger eventually filled a defensive roll. Here the need for speed was not as crucial.
Did someone ask for punching power? The Tiger carries a main gun comparable to the one carried by the massive King Tiger. While a bit slower than the Panther G, the speed limitations that plagued the real Tiger will not prove as critical on your battlefield. As with any main battle tank, initially deploy them in open areas where they can make the most of their strengths. Light and medium AT guns are a non-threat outside of 200 meters.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
