By
far the most popular of the American tank destroyers, the M18 Hellcat went
through several modifications before it was standardized. Outclassing the
M10 in both firepower and speed, the M18 was the embodiment of 'shoot and
scoot' tactics. While the crew was still vulnerable in the open top turret,
the Hellcat proved the most successful of the tank destroyers. Its popularity
and success was attested to by the fact that there was still another version
in development when the war ended.
When
it comes to the tank destroyers, this is about as good as it gets for America.
The 76.2mm main gun gives the Hellcat an excellent one shot, one kill capability.
Be careful about keeping this unit in the open for long, the armor is thinner
than on the M10. However, taking advantage of the M18's speed, you should
have no trouble flanking German vehicles.
In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
