Unit Guide - US M36

usM36

Battlegroup Name: Heavy Tank Killer
Turret Class: Open Top
Turret Type: Rotating
Crew: 5
Speed: 30 mph (48 km/h)
Weight: 55,400 lb. (25,180 kg)
Engine: Ford GAA V8, 500 hp, gasoline

A variant on the M4A2 tank chassis, this is the best combination found in American tank destroyers. While the M36 was relatively slow, the high velocity main gun packed one hell of a punch. However, even with the power from its massive gun, the M36 still suffered from the vulnerabilities of all American tank destroyers, an open top. But crews assigned to the M36 were confident in their ability to quickly convert targets into kills.
This is the perfect vehicle to place in a good hull-down position with clear line of sight to the entire battlefield. Keep in mind that when using this tactic it may become necessary to cycle between a reverse slope and hull-down position. Moving to the reverse slope allows your crew to remain out of sight while it reloads the main gun. The M36 is one of the few American vehicles that pose a threat to the JagdTiger. Just hope that the enemy doesn't live long enough to fire back.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
