Lightly
armored, the M8 Greyhound was never intended to slug it out on the open
battlefield against tanks. Used primarily as a reconnaissance platform,
the M8 served both British and American armies as the off-road vehicle of
choice. While not configured to engage tanks, the two machineguns and 37mm
cannon provided adequate firepower against enemy truck columns and infantry
positions.
Survival
of the M8 requires intelligent planning and employment. When it shares the
field with enemy tanks the Greyhound should be used strictly as a reconnaissance
vehicle. Even engaging lightly armored columns still requires a delicate
touch. Using other units fix the enemies position with a frontal attack.
Then quickly move the Greyhound to the flanks. From this position the 37mm
cannon will prove most effective. Using hills, trees, and buildings as cover
will only increase the Greyhounds odds of survival.
In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
