Ranks Guide

This is a colllection of all the ranks represented in Atomic's Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far Game. Some of these insignias are very rare in the game. Since I found this rather intriguing I set out to collect them all and show them to everybody interested. A little information on the chart is given below.

In the Close Combat 2 game engine the soldiers' ranks are identified with numbers from 0 through 9. The highest four (#9 - 6) are generally officer - grade ranks, the middle ranks are usually non-commissioned officer (NCO) ones, the lower numbers are enlisted men's ranks. Note that the lowest rank #0 (sometimes also rank #1) in many services is only a blank black field. Soldiers can be promoted when showing good performance (kills, esp. tank kills by infantry, acts of bravery, medals) over a series of battles. Promotion generally occurs rather seldom, though. Also, a soldier cannot be promoted indefinitely:

A gap between ranks  means that the next higher rank cannot be achieved through promotion in CC2

Example: An american Private  (#1) can -in theory- be promoted all the way up to Staff Sergeant  (#4), but no further.

Therefore, a polish soldier 'born' with the rank of  (#5) can never be anything else during his entire (short) life in CC2.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
