In one of our H2H battles, a FlaK 8.8 cm ATG (on Ambush) knocked out an Achilles first shot at about 600 m ... and the ATG wasn't spotted by the Allied player. It wasn't at the very beginning of the battle, and the Achilles moved into Line of Sight of the                 FlaK 88

No, it doesnt replace any explosion graphics in the games that have airsupport built in. The replacing of explosion graphics was only necessary for CC3/COI. And airsupport runs fine in COI even with a lot of images needed. If the case was that the airplanes somehow overloaded the game at runtime then the converted GtC explosions would cause crashes all the time as they are really image heavy.

But CC3 was before the newer games that have air support built in. Therefore, air support airplane graphics replacing a regular support explosion ... was how it began. That was my point.

Also, airplane graphics travel across the screen ... but explosion and smoke are single location effects.

But, nice to hear COI runs without air support crashes. I didn't know that.

I remember years ago, Zonbie made some parachute graphics to replace the airplane graphics in CC3 Western Front mod. It worked, but I seem to remember the game would crash if there was too many images in the animation sequence.

It could be the arrangement of elements on the map coding and how they change (destructible elements) when the ammunition hits.

The best test it to try and duplicate the issue. If you know a map that is prone to airstrike crashes, launch an airstrike on the same spot again, and again.

Good one Mooxe, I never thought of that.
But, since Airstrike crashes have been known for a long time and haven't been successfully fixed ... I'm thinking that it might be something that isn't possible to correct.

From my understanding, Airplane graphics replace one or more of the explosion effect animations, normally used for off board support. And maybe, since there is a lot of images needed to make the airplane appear to be moving across the screen ... it's just too much for the game to handle at times under certain conditions.
But, I have no real knowledge of why it crashes.

I'm at the point now though, that I'm not wanting to use a feature that causes the game to crash ... which results in a rebuild or replay.

Hi Mooxe,
interesting observations about the TLD Meuse GC ... strange about the cohesion not being regained after resting BG's.

As for LSA GJS multiplayer ... I think BG's regained cohesion when taken out of the fight.

Recently playing the "Breakout" Operation in LSA GJS 9.4 ... and can confirm 100 percent for sure that the Vehicle repair feature does work.

During a battle ... I had a Tiger II immobilized on a road by a 17 pdr ATG. The Tiger II and 17 pdr exchanged a few more rounds each, but the Tiger II prevailed ... knocking out the 17 pdr.
Over the course of the same, above mentioned, battle ... I also had a Tiger I immobilized while "Moving" through a treed area.

Looking at this Battle Group next turn ... the Tiger II was repaired and came back, but the Tiger I didn't get repaired and was removed from the Force Pool.

Steiner and I were pretty sure it worked, but the above example is proof that the "repair vehicle" feature works in the latest Matrix patch for LSA, version 6.00.02

Yes, Tejszd ... unfortunately not fixed. Probably a good idea you have to reduce it for Meuse.

Talked with Steiner about this a bit ... and he thinks Allied Airstrikes are important to keep in game, at least for the Grand Campaign.

Although he suggested to not use them on a few maps where they are known to crash the game frequently.
For example: Bayeux, Buron ... etc.
I can't remember what other maps had this problem, but it seems to be mostly map specific for the Airstrike problem specifically.

So, whenever we play our next GC ... we'll agree to use Air support, but not for a number of specific maps.

Crackwise ... some changes where made for 9.4 regarding quantities of support. But no plans to change the strength of Artillery support.

Therefore, it might be best to just leave things how they are in 9.4 ... at let players decide if they want to use Air Strikes or not.

After a few more H2H battles, where ATG's have been used ... it seems ATG's in 9.4 are ok.

They are not indestructible, but do take a few more rounds from a tank/s to destroy (but not always).

Had a MG42 shooting at a 6pdr ATG about 300-400 yards for about 5 mins, and didn't knock it out. Probably suppressed it though, which would diminish its accuracy and rate of fire.

Good point Mooxe, that as a player ... you adapt to a game. I just didn't want ATG's to be unrealistically indestructible, but also not too easily knocked out, as in previous versions.

And yes Crackwise, ATG's accuracy was increased a bit ... and I do like the effect of this.
Also, haven't tested against snipers, but assume they will not be effective against ATG's frontal armor shield.

Recently Steiner and I started playing the "Breakout" Operation in GJS 9.4

We had Airstrike crashes on two maps out of four maps at the beginning. It pretty much ruined the way the Operation plays out, due to the significance of the initial battles.

Therefore we replayed the battles and decided to not use Airstrikes.
I've come to the conclusion that Airstrikes are a broken feature in this game. And although I like them when they work ... I'm no longer going to use them, due to their inconsistency.

Having to reconstruct territory and losses or replay battles ... takes away too much from the game, in my opinion.

PostForum: Close Combat Last Stand Arnhem   Posted: Sat Jan 23, 2021 4:24 pm   Subject: LSA GJS 9.4 Anti Tank Guns
By request from players ... Anti Tank Guns (ATG's) now have more armor protection in GJS version 9.4

In GJS version 9.1, ATG's could be knocked by enemy infantry fire quite easily. But in version 9.4, infantry rarely can knock them out ... unless they're assaulted from close range using grenades, etc.
It's also more difficult to destroy ATG's with Armored vehicles with main guns.

I'll attach a poll to this thread to get feedback from you about what you think.

Keep in mind that most Battle Groups only have five slots to get Tanks, ATG's, and other vehicle types ... so if ATG's aren't very effective, they may not be selected over Tanks.

And, although ATG's may seem difficult to knock out in version 9.4 ... this may balance out the way ATG's score hits and survive enemy fire compared to real life combat.

I'm open to changing ATG's to have armor protection reduced to somewhere in between 9.1 and 9.4 ... if that's what players want.

Also, it's helpful to play multiple games under various conditions in order to get a good feel for where ATG's are at now.

Thanks

note: Cathartes moved GJS to LSA June 6, 2013 ... which was version 6.0 beta. Thanks to him and everyone else who created the original GJS mod.
Version 6.0 notes are further down in this readme file.

Note: Battles, Operations, and Campaigns that are compatible with GJS 9.4 are named with "GJS" at the beginning of each title.
For example: GJS Breakout

Battle Groups:
There is now two KG Oppeln Battle Groups ... one for the Grand Campaign and another for the GJS Breakout Operation.
Historcally, Tiger I and Tiger II tanks of the 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion (s.Pz.Abt. 503) were attached to I./22/21 Panzer Division during the time of Goodwood.

Battles:
Also some new single Battles have been made.

Yes, thanks for explaining that Pzt_Crackwise.

Don't play any stock LSA stuff ... or it will crash to desktop, and you will need to relaunch the game.

After you install GJS 9.1 there is available to play:
the Grand Campaign. It's in the Campaigns tab ... DDay Historic H2H

There is also two Operations ... Fighting the 12SS and Operation Perch
And one Battle ... Villers Bocage

The is also a new BattlePack1 available, as mentioned above.

And lastly ... you need  LSA patch version: v6.00.01

buuface put together some battles and ops for LSA GJS 9.1
It's a plugin file and can be installed using ModSwap ... Install GJS 9.1 first.

download link:
http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Downloads&op=getit&lid=4283

note: Battles and Operations are easy to locate "in game" ... since they all start with "GJS"

From the readme file:

July 2020
LSA_GJS_9.1_BattlePack1

BattlePack1 has Battles and Operations for LSA GJS 9.1
The Plugin file installs the Battles and Operations into CC LSA "Battles" and "Operations" Menu tabs "in game".

Note: LSA GJS 9.1 mod is required to be installed first ... before BattlePack1

After LSA GJS 9.1 mod is installed:
1. put the "LSA_GJS_9.1_BattlePack1_plugin.lsa" file into your "Plugins" folder, (where GJS 9.1 Plugin file is located).
2. Then launch CCModSwap
3. click file
4. click install
5. double click the "LSA_GJS_9.1_BattlePack1_plugin.lsa" file
6. click Ok

Thanks to buuface for creating these Battles and Operations
Thanks to Steiner for helping

Also included with this Plugin, is document:
