for what its worth, i know people with similar problems read these so ill tell you how i dealt with it.  As far as I know you can't make it work on game ranger. UNLESS you get shifty old school style like I remember doing way back with CC3 and I didn't know about Mod Swop.

I just changed my main Close combat The Longest Day folder to The Longest Day 2 (literally just added the number 2 to name--but thats arbitrary, you can name it anything you want).  

By doing that it will no longer launch.  Then I REINSTALLED GAME.   Now you have two versions.   Go back into old TLD 2 folder and find KHARKOV file (or whatever mod you wants folder) open it and select all folders (DATA/GAMES/LOCALFX/GRAPHICS, ETC) and Copy them.  Go back toyour  NEW TLD folder and click and paste into main folder area so that i asks if you want to overwrite everything.  Say YES.  Let it overwrite.   Now when you launch with new download HOLD CONTROL BUTTON and select "Play Windowed" and choose largest your video card can handle.   Then redo patch and GTC graphics (if your into that) and your GOOD TO GO on game ranger.  Its going to think its launching unmodded TLD.  But nah, your good

UPDATE: I apologize but this isn't quite worked out.  This is one of those things that theoretically should work.  But when I launch with my buddy it crashes.  Will update.  It does work to change game...so i just dont see why game crashes.  will advise.  any input is helpful.  Im a layman at this but am trying.   this used to work with russian front in the 90s.

UPDATE 2:   Brandenburg or someone said that it had something to do with the main menu screen.  if its not identical to regular game, it causes a crash. . i dont see how but thats about my nerd grade.

When I direct connect with both me and opponent on wireless router,  it is so slow I can't play.  So we figured, why not connect directly to router with ethernet cable for faster play?  Once I plug in, we can't connect.  Any ideas on that?  Must somehow change IP address maybe?  But ill be damned if it doesn't say its same IP address. any ideas?

Im embarrassed to say this, but the plain old patch fixed it. i didn't bother to install the patch because game wasnt working.  etc.  thanks for the input.

Its just weird that it installed without ever asking me for the serial number....  I found CC5_NoCD.zip which ill mess around with.  thanks again.

Its been so long..... did this original disc come with a serial number or code?   i feel like i remember it having one. i dont have one...or lost it.  but it didnt ask me for it....

Update, if disc is in it and you do auto run, it will put up the initial screen where you hit "play" but then disc spins and nothing ever happens or launches.

No dice.  started from ground up and still get same look when it launches.  launched it with regular WAR plus patch.  worked fine.  Added MOD, and crash.   any other ideas?   thank you kindly.

I got this to work in the past so i know i CAN...but i never did it with windows 10.  I have CD...although i dont even remember if there was a serial number when you bought it, but it didn't ask.  its downloaded....full install.  ive tweaked with comparability settings... but when i click on icon...nothing happens.  just sits there.  game never launches.  i KNOW this is an old issue probably and probably asked a few times.   is there a link to some instructions?  ive looked through the forums and can't find the right one.  any help is much appreciated.  thank you kindly.

If anyone can help with this one i'd appreciate it.  When I launch it works, you get the intro and sound.  Then it sometimes itll sit there on the menu screen until I click on anything and it just crashes with no errors.  other times it crashes right away.  The menu screen looks funny.  I attached a pic.   It used to give me a little error box with with some mumbo jumbo that i wish I had taken a screen shot of but didn't.  now it doesn't do that.  I tweaked with compatibility for awhile.  nothing really worked.  any thoughts?

Bro Drizzts mods have done so much for this game!  I love it.  Kursk would be sweet.   Id also love to see a Seelow Heights mod or one built on Russian campaign to take budapest in late ww2.  If for no reason, then a chance to see some of the cooler tanks, tank killers other fun weapons the german/russians had at the end like Jagdpanthers, jagdtigers, King tigers, JS2s and SU 122/152 and all that. anyways, i got nothing to say because I can't do this kind of computer work! but I just want to say thank you for all your work, Kharkov especially.  Love those 10 man teams and indirect fire weapons. Keep it up bro!

Not tight.  so sad.  i waited soooo long.  Its just wonky and slow and the mouse movement and interaction sucks and the guys move too slow and its just weird.   so bummed.  lIts hard to describe whats bad about it other than to just say its clumsy and wonky.   It needs to run at least 50% faster.    The last good CC was TLD.  

They had a winning formula with COI, WAR, TLD, LSA...all rocked. them someone just has to change the formula and put out a crap factory like PITF....but do they learn their lesson? no so then CAEN comes alone, which was only slightly better...then.....this.  im not a hater either.  I really wanted to love it. Id play PITF any day over this.

If anyone ever listens to these postings, that is involved with making these CC games, here is the opinion of someone who's played since CC2 was a brand new game.  I posted this in another thread and ill post it again now.  i'd love some feedback. anyone else have an opinion?

My absolute favorite aspect of Close Combat is the part of Cross of Iron/CC3 that allowed you to assign a certain amount of points for each side in a  battle and when you play you basically get to go shopping with a specific amount of points and you can set it so all possible teams/vehicles are available.  You can make the battle last days on the same map, OR you could attach any maps you wanted to it and create your own timeline.  And there are HUNDREDS of maps.  My cousin and I would (and still do) bet 100$ on a 500 point (sometime more sometimes less) 3 day battle with an additional 50 points per day if a truce was agreed too.  Its fantastic.  The shopping for teams is half the fun.  If this could be added to any MOD in TLD, that would be my dream game.  That's the problem is the TLD kharkov/Der kessesl, etc. MODS are so superior in performance and maps and play, that its hard to go back and play cross of iron.  The create a scenario part of TLD and the others after COI just doesn't allow for the same level of creativity.  There was also a Free Deploy mod way back fro CC3 that allowed you to deploy your troops anywhere on the maps.  So the battle could go north to south, or vice versa or you could have someone be surrounded.   I would love to see that in TLD and the other new ones.... Does anyone else agree or am I alone on this one?
