referring to the Bloody First. I was hoping the next iteration would be a complete departure from the older versions of cc, this one seems to be sort of a side step, at least in terms of graphics i.e. the isometric view with 3d shapes. Isometric games are... well as old as the original CC. Regardless, the original games are gems so the potential is there. So whats the verdict on this game? |

My first game against Homba ended like my last. The irony :)

But what a jump in the rankings, only took me four years!!! Thanks for the post and the links Homba, good memories.
Side note:
Recently, I got an itch to play CC1. When I say itch I really mean obsessed. I have the cd and tried to install it on Win 7 64bit OS and I just could not figure out a way to do it. There are a few solutions, run a virtual machine and install a copy of Win 98 on my PC or build a new/old PC which runs 98. I tried the VM route once with another game and the game performance was less than desirable. Building a Win 98 machine is a bit extreme and cumbersome, I did not go that route. Finally, I found an easier cheap solution; buy the game on GOG for less than 6 bucks and be done with it. They don't officially sell CC1 on GOG, but if you buy any of original versions of CC you get a free copy of Close Combat. Just thought I'd add that in there for those of you who want to play CC1.
Gaming update: I have yet to find an adequate replacement for CC2 multi-player. I still play Mount and Blade Warband multi-player (not as often as before), I am pretty damned good at it too! Recently, I started thinking about ASL, Advanced Squad Leader board game and bought a used copy, of the first module, Beyond Valor. Fookin expensive, $139 after all was said and done. Its a great game and the CC series has its roots tied to that game. I also found a wargaming group in my area and a few of the members play ASL. So, I am going to be back in action soon! ASL is on par with and actually exceeds the CC series in terms of realism and complexity, but its an entirely different animal since it is turn based game. |

I'm not exactly sure, but I heard Bannerlord is a ways off. I Remember reading somewhere that they'll, Taleworlds, will probably have another DLC project, before Bannerlord is released. But since I am such a late-comer to multi-player I can keep myself occupied.
I usually play on the native [GK] servers, either Siege of Team Deathmatch, whichever has the most people on it. Its has a decent ping and frequented by a fair amount of people. Also, I think most players have migrated over to the Napoleonic and Viking multiplayer servers. |

AFK for a bit Yeah I'm begrudgingly on steam. I'm a bit of a luddite, took me a while to cave in, but you really can't play any aaa titles without it. Anyway, just sent a friend request. Name on steam is Paddy_Wagon. Surprisingly, more than one Homba on steam.
Playing a lot of Mount & Blade: Warband. After, owning the game for years and playing solo, I finally tried the multi-player... pretty damned fun. Hectic, combat, but sniping people with a bow or crossbow is kinda fun. The tactics are pretty basic, but some people are insanely good at that game, especially given that it came out in 09. A lot of people use team speak on warband. Ive yet to try it out (luddite). It definitely would make coordinating defense and attack tons easier |

I still have yet to find a game that matches CC2 in head to head play. Tense, heady, frustrating and elating all at the same time. Oh the sinking feeling as a commander when the distinctive "whump whump" report of a salvo of panzerfausts is headed for the shermans I ordered to move through the woods or a city street. Or the elation when a Panther exposes its rear armor to a bazooka team or Flamethrower I have hidden in the brush. Nothing like it!
Although, I really haven't found or played a WWII game since TH closed shop. I have Arma II which is more of an FPS type though it does have a third person setting and you can control squad mates platoons etc. (at least in the single player mode) , but the controls are less than instinctive and they are actually quite clunky.I think that game shines in the multi-player mode, but I haven't tried it so far and they've already come out with Arma III.
I have all the CC titles, I believe, except the updated versions. Yet, I can't really seem to make the leap and play. I am hoping they will come up with an updated (completely overhauled and modern) version of CC, but from what I have seen the updates are marginal. Still maybe someday... |

Hello, I have had CC1 and CC2 for some time but I have never had CC3 any ideas on where to purchase CC3 new? I have looked on the web but I have only seen it for sale used on e-bay.
