Thanks for the replies but still no solution to my problems.. Can anyone tell me what resolutions you are using on your computer and in the game resolution. I gather from your replies that the games I mentioned all play properly on your win 8.1 or win 10. Is this correct? What could be making the difference? Please help!

All my CC games including (CC PITF, CC WAR, CC TLD and CC GTC) the patches and mods downloaded ,installed and played perfectly in Win7 and Win8. With Win 8.1 and Win 10
the games download, install and start but within minutes the game freezes while the battle sounds continue. After escape and exit I have tried using admin privileges and different
compatibility settings both on the computer and within the game itself to no avail.Does someone out there have a solution to this problem besides returning to win 8.0 or Win7?
Any and all suggestions would really be welcome. Thank you for your help.

Very strange happenings. When I first used Win8.1 none of my CC games ( I nearly have all of them) would even install or even play. Then a young techie from Future Shop said uninstall 8.1 and use 8.0. Everything worked fine on all CC games.I was even able to get the games to play at 1366 X 768 resolution. The other day I decided to finally upgrade to win8.1 after I had to reformat my C drive. Well the game finally downloaded and installed after
seeking out and adding direct x or something; however the screen size remained 800 X 600 despite changing it under options.. It will not allow me to change to larger resolution. Anyone have any suggestions on the fix for this?
Tnaks for your help.

Mooxe,

I was not altogether surprised to hear that you are packing it in after 10 years at the helm of CCS. Frankly with all the recent negative chat  about CC
series coming to an end it seems natural that this would eventually happen. I have always been an avid fan and player (SP) of CC ever since I
bought my first game CCI back in 1996. While I am not a techie or a developer of mods I love the games and the CCS site which has really
the mainstay to CC and its fans.

Well Mooxe you have been and still are the the one key player in keeping Close Combat alive through this site. I sincerely thank you for all the time
and effort you devoted to CCS and us.
 Good luck to you.

PostForum: Tech Support   Posted: Sat Jan 25, 2014 11:23 pm   Subject: Re: Using Windows 8.1 64 bit on All Close Combat Games
Hi Mooxe, Caruso and Fellow CC Players,

Went to another Future Shop and met a young techie employee who really knew what he was talking about. He suggested how to get CC games to run (as well as most other games) and secondly to make Win8 more friendly.

First off do not install Win8.1,or if you already have , get rid of Win8.1! Re install Win8.0 from an ISO image you made. You either either put it on a CD or Memory Stick 32 (Ghz minimum) when you first got your Win8.0 for your new computer. Or use your original Win8 discs if you have them (unlikely). The game(s)install and run perfectly.

To make Win8 more user friendly and familiar (like Win7 or Win Classic) download from the internet and install "Classic Shell". It's free and can be uninstalled without causing problems to your Win 8 system.

Hope this information proves helpful.

Thank you for your assistance.

Mooxe,

I am sorry. The complete error message with X ciircled in red stated " The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close
application."
I went online to get HP tech help.Absolutely hopeless!.They say that there is an error with the download and that it is a program error not a computer
one.

Hello,
I just got a new laptop with the Win 8.1 64 bit system installed ...no choice unfortunately. I would have preferred my Win 7 64 bit O/S.I downloaded
Close Combat (V) Invasion Normandy and got an error message when I tried to install. I tried admin privileges  and changing compatibility without
success. I have all the Close Combat series and mods except CCII. I am really worried that all these games will not play. Can you help? Any
suggestions? Bottom line the question is? Can CC games play on Win8.1 64 bit?

Pete,

Finished the campaign a while back and thought I give you some feedback.A great mod and tough if you play Canadian as Elite and German as Line. Excellent maps and commentary. The difficult terrain requires a lot of planning before you proceed! I am telling you the Italian Campaign has all kinds of possibilities for other challenging mods. Not sure whether this historically was the case but the Battle groups on either side vary hardly at all unless depleted. Were there not other Allied troops involved at Ortona? Can get repetitive.Tanks are an asset but given the terrain and mud it really is up to your lowly infantry.Best strategy for Allied player which prolongs the game somewhat is let the German come at you. Not sure why adjacent maps can't always accessed. Thanks once again for the Mod.

Hurriken,
I have CCI,III,IV and V as well as TLD and WAR. Frankly CCIII & CCV are the best of the CCS with the most interesting mods available. With CCV I can even play CCII ABTF as a mod and there is an excellent new mod on a slice of the Italian Campaign called Ortona . There are a few mods now for TLD and WAR as part of Matrix Games offering. As for technical issues I can get all the games other than CCI to play on my laptop HP Pavilion Win7 64 bit  dv6 4G ram 250G hard drive dual 2.1M at 1366x768 res and 16 bit. I can't speak for Win8 but it should work fine.Yes the new PITF is damn expensive and I am still deliberating on its purchase.
I suggest you continue to communicate to some of the seasoned players/modders here on CCS to get their expert opinion.

Nikin,
Ran into another problem after installing ModSwap from Matrix link. I have all my CCS games mods etc installed in portable drive F. ModSwap can't find
original TLD (latest patch) in F drive even though I installed TLD (patched) and ModSwap and it's patch in F drive. I get to the point with ModSwap
where it says install mod and it says error ..need to find correct game.It suggests I change link in the ModSwap ini file? How does that work?
 Any suggestions?

Nikin,

I have just downloaded your mod of Caen v.0.93. What is Mod Swap? Is it a straight forward install and uninstall
when done? Must I save any original files of TLD before installing this mod?

 Thanks,

Guys,

Try going on EBay or Amazon to buy older used and new CCS games I,II,III,IV and V. As a backup I just bought new CCV for roughly $8.00 cdn plus
shipping..about  $16.00 in total. Now you can play all those mods.

STWA,

Hi there.Hey who made you the "expert" about CCS? CC is and has always been about multi player????? Are you jesting? Opinions are one
thing.Where are your facts? Look if a computer program can beat world renowned players at chess or at bridge we can certainly improve the
   CS's AI .

Yah kids like multi players shoot em up more like they do the walking dead. CC is about conflict between men and armaments and the
strategy/tactics required to win. Most CC players (see survey) are likely older and yes play alone and want a better AI..naturally.

PITF yes has better 32 bit graphics and other special effects but is not 3D.So what!.

CCS has always attracted and been enjoyed by a cadre of players (likely many military buffs) numbering thousands not hundred of thousands.
Thanks to Avalon Hill,Atomic, Microsoft, Matrix and the others, especially all those imaginative hard working enthusiasts who provide us with
   great mods.

Hi TMK,
Thanks for your come back on my comments on 3D being gimmicky. Okay I got a little carried away. So maybe 3D graphics will add "something" to
 the CCS's future.

Frankly I don't watch any movie in HD that isn't well written well acted and tells a great story. So graphics is but a small part of the
story. By the way can you or anyone provide me with an example of a CSS type game pic in 3D? What does it look like?Is it still a top down view? I
have nearly all the games in the Call of Duty series. To me that is 3D! Close Combat cannot go there..period. Nor should it! It is not that kind of a
 game a "first person shooter"!

What I am referring to is improving upon the key elements of CC..particularly the AI: higher res graphics so viewing combat closer in is realistic,
playability, realism, new and different battles/conflicts besides WWII. I don't go for being able to choose battle groups etc..stick to the historical BG's.
If you want to reinvent a conflict and play "what if" by changing this then that it's another matter. Yes finally it is really about the gameplay not
 the nice packaging or look.
