Are you aiming to create a historical mod or a just-for-fun game with arcade style gameplay?

If 'yes'. the how do you plan to recreate one of the largest tank battles in history on a dated simulation that was solely created for infantry:infantry combat with light support in close (under 300 meter) engagements?

People will play it and enjoy it, and I'm sure you will do excellent work, Drizzt. Unfortunately, it won't be 'Close Combat' for me.

Haven't dabbled in CC modding for a decade. Can't remember how to make a plugin file for older (CC5) mods.

I created a folder with all mod files in it. Zipped them up, then tried to change the extension. Config only recognizes them as 'archive'.

I'm running Win 7 with Win zip and 7-zip. The mod folder doesn't seem to change into a 'pln' extension as before.

Or am I missing something?

WOw, excellent work Hicks!

It would be nice if you added Italian medals, (1940-43).

Also Ebro mod: Spanish Nationalist and Spanish Republican forces.

If you are adventurous, you could research Greece, Albania, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the 'Low Countries', Norway, Brazil (fought in Italy '43-44), and even Thailand/Siam (minor Axis power allied w/Japan '43-45).

That should give you a challenge.

:)

SL, I've offered numerous times to work on it but can't seem to get anyone to coordinate.

Anyone else tried this one? A quick look for info didn't reveal anything here. Not sure why Dima chose to port it to WAR instead of TLD. I loaded it up and clicked on the EXE. Immediate CTD about FP not having the right values. Did I noe install something right? Kinda hard to think how to mess up an install.

Anyone else had problems with the Utah mod port to WAR?

Ah, I see. Those Russkies have been kicking out war movies by the dozen over the past 20 years.

If I can gain access to the Winter War maps that SL did, I will try to port them to TLD or LSA.

Then I could check it out. Crete is an interesting theater.

PostForum: Close Combat The Longest Day   Posted: Mon Apr 29, 2019 8:41 am   Subject: Re: mod conversion to LSA
Years later,

PITF seemed like it was a developer's experiment. "Hey guys, let's make a bunch of insignificant changes, update some functionality, create a sleek new interface, and throw in a gimmick feature (fog)...and then we'll see if they buy it!". I found it to be mediocre and boring. And not just because it follows the stale trend being set in France 1944. It just felt like a fancy, tank-heavy mod; not a new game.

Now, Gateway to Caen was a refined experience. It actually felt like a game with improved AI and a challenging strat map, though the choice of setting was largely derivative, especially if you consider the popularity of the GJS mod among the CC community. The overlap between the two is hard to miss.

As for your points about LSA and suppression/accuracy, I haven't noticed much of what Steve stated. I have noticed that soldiers seem safer in certain types of cover and don't get slaughtered as easily (in GJS and Rhineland 45), but I didn't notice it so much in LSA. The CC experience really comes down to how one manipulates the data. There is only so much that can be done with the base game engine, as I think Steve and the devs have found out. That's partly why mods are so important to this game.

I think LSA is an excellent game, and a worthy CC title. I agree that stacking BGs and using one to supplement the other is a nice strategic option. But overall I consider TLD a better standard for porting and creating mods on. It's simply much more stable. Besides, there are excellent mods for CC5 and CC4 classic that have never been ported or updated. Some players write them off simply because they were created on an older version of the game. That's unfortunate. With a good GC, I find a mod like Afrika 40-41 to be just as entertaining as Gateway to Caen or LSA (though blowing up bridges is really cool).

Smaller maps = more aggressive AI, as VLs are closer to reach.

Did I just save you a couple of paragraphs?

Probably attached to a pixel or 'spot' where the soldier sprite was terminated. Game likely remembers it via a cache as you describe, buried in all that code.

If I recall, that AFV was for lobbing heavy mortar shells at targets a dozen kilometers away. Not for direct fire at 200 meters.

Any new work on CC mods is appreciated. But I'd really like to see more of your stuff ported to TLD or LSA.

I usually never pay much attention to mod maker's names, especially if I don't know them from way back. But Pete and Buck have consistently produced quality work that I admire. I'd love to see Ortona and Scheldt ported to the above.

Wish I checked here first. Posted this issue in another forum. I have the same exact crash, late in the GC...near victory...hit execute and it's all gone.
