if you buy TLD, buy it from Matrix. You get a Steam code from them too, so you have the game on both platforms.

Hello Sir Mooxe!
Just purchased TLD from Matrix, how do I add to steam?
Did some googling but couldn't find the process. |

Is there an updated version of CC5 anywhere with fixes that would still work with old mods? |

Hi CloseCombatRob, if you start hanging out in game ranger you'll see other people playing from time to time, message them and add them to your friends and that way you'll see when they're online and can contact them directly for games. Somewhere on the forum here people have posted their gameranger ID's too, I think it might be in people's profiles also, you can add friends that way too and see when they're online. |

The best method I've found is to set up a power plan where you set your CPU to 1 or 2%. Then set scroll speed to minimum. Works well for me on different systems running Win7 and CC5. |

With that said, I seriously believe that CC needs to be developed by other people. It needs to be acquired by some more competent company, with a more ethical approach.
Even making a similar open-source community game would be better than this mess they have currently. I just wish the source code of some very old CC games would be accessible. Like CC1 or CC2, so that the coders would have a chance to see how things work in the engine.

Haven't read this whole thread but agree with above entirely. They've wasted a golden opportunity and I wasted my money paying top dollar for two of the new releases that fall well short of the originals... I've played them only a handful of times.
I would have preferred to pay that money just for a bug free updated version of cc5... One that allows for easy portability of mods etc. I think most of us would. Some might think this is going too far, but personally I think they're jerks and will applaud the day that they're out of the picture. |

But if you jump on game ranger you'll find several people willing to play cc5 there.
I know of two other people who only play original who are regularly online. I would suggest getting some mods though, at least the most popular cc5 mods: gjs/utah.

Prob same idiots who destroyed 90% of movies ever made with their 'made for the masses' bs... ;)
Off topic I know but look at the walking dead for example, a laughably bad script full of absurdly idiocies and lame contrivances... yet incredibly popular! Somehow this pos gets 8.7 on imdb.com! WTF? Putting it at #100 in the ranking of top TV series of all time... simply shameful. I truly don't like to say this but it's hard not to think there's a lot of very stupid people out there. Don't get me wrong, I've watched and enjoyed the series as I scream "rick you dick" 10 times an episode on average and hate on his douchebag of a son, take that stupid f-ing hat off you lame tool, and no you really can't score perfect HS 15 times from one 7 round clip you little prick! ... that kind of thing. But seriously, who in their right mind rates this garbage 8.7/10... most people it seems! Scary scary thought. Wayyy off topic I know. /rant. |

Hey Dima :)
Do you mean *in* TLD version? mooxe's game started in 2009. Been meaning to try TLD-TRSM for a while, just not playing much of late. With you at the helm I'm sure it's epic! Actually in my above post I thought they were playing GJS but no doubt you'd agree what I said goes doubly for CC5-TRSM.
Serk and I were actually playing CC5-TRSM GC around same time as this AAR and he was heavily on the back foot the whole way. Only TRSM GC I've played. Serk must have had 2x Gerry CC5-TRSM GCs, tough going. |

Generally speaking setting your troops to defend is trouble. There's no simple way to explain this, it's something that will come with experience, the GJS Strat Guide might help a lot?
If they have those blue arches like shown in your original picture they're in defend mode. Though often in defend mode they'll not fire when they're able to fire (ie by ordering them to fire). In my experience the better players rarely use defend, they certainly don't rely on it. It's ambush (to remain hidden) then you open up when the time is right usually by ordering the shot but if there's too much going on you might be in defend. If you've not already, get to know the hotkeys, there's only 6 or them, plus 10 for team/group selection. Also learn the ATG technique (an ambush/defend technique that helps keep guns hidden, I think it's there in the strat guide). These things will help your game immensely if you're not already using all of them. A good player can tell what you're not doing and will exploit it. Personally I find it very easy attacking guys who use defend because they usually reveal their positions before I've committed so I can then choose the terms of the the engagement, hit head on, bring in support, flank, retreat etc. |

If you look at the save game file, the Allies are in some bad positions on a few maps. There is definitely an opportunity for the Germans to go back to a minor victory and stay there for a couple days.
|
Serk is a great guy, played several full GCs with him, haven't seen him in years other than a brief pop-in here and there. I think you got this one wrapped up. imho impossible for germans to win after allied break out unless allies do something wrong. Allied weight of numbers is too great. They can hold out for a good long while but in overall terms they lose the GC if allies manage a break out like you have. Even if they do disband you a few times and/or push back a little. I'd be happy to have another GJS round with you if you're interested. I remain undefeated as germans, I'd be happy to avenge Serk!
I think our other gjsGC was only time I've surrendered as allies. I still think I did that too soon, should have settled in for war of attrition but got frustrated at inability to blitz you like I do to almost everyone else! |

Forum: Close Combat 5: Invasion Normandy Posted: Fri Apr 19, 2013 10:38 pm Subject: Re: Deploy Rule |
This problem happens when the default deploy area the game gives the entry force knocks the defenders off their only remaining VLs. Sometimes the game will do something like what's pictured, other times it will give each side half of the map. The issue or something similar will also sometimes occur where two BGs are entering at VLs that are very close to each other.
In the situation pictured I believe the fairest outcome is to only deploy in the area closes to the previous position of the forces (from the picture it looks like this is the top of the map).
In the situation where the game apportions half the map to each side, it's different in every case but generally it seems to me it's best to take up the general positions that would have been occupied before starting the battle. So that the stronger force isn't disadvantaged if you really want you can change the battle time for just this battle to allow time to take positions and then time to play out the regular battle time once forces are in position.
My guide here shows how to change times, you can use the same process to create any battle timeframe and then use the same process to set it back to normal. |
