As a Briton I have never heard anyone suggest Germany conspires to do anything like the above.  I actually find the idea that Germany would want Russia to annexe Ukraine or even just Crimea preposterous.  From my seat I see Germany wanting nothing more than stability for the Eurozone area, an aggressive Russia next door would be the antithesis of this.

Far from hating on Germany I don't know any Europeans that has a negative view of them as a nation, my office well represented by Poles, a Czech, Austrians and not a few Yeoman Brits.

As for Germany dominating the Eurozone, well of course this is the case.  Germany with France represents the most populous and prosperous areas of that economic zone.  The disadvantage of an arrangement such as the Euro is that it will inevitably pull toward the main member counties as they effectively are reinforcing other smaller economies.  Greece was happy to suck up Euro's fro this economic block, they really can't get upset when they get called on pissing it up the wall.  I still think that the best thing the EU could do is cut Greece loose as a warning to other nations against defaulting their agreements and responsibilities.  To be fair to Greece though they are at least towing the line now so we shall see.  Angela Merkel is the sort of leader that would/could do such a thing but it shows the belief and not a little benevolence that this has not happened.

Anyway how does a discussion on Russian belligerence get on to EU/German economics, unless we are suggesting that Vladimir will annexe that to prop up Russia's failing economy.  Shocked

in the UK they came bagged in the following colours, sometimes mixed together;

Green = US
Grey = Germany
Brown = UK
Beige = Japanese

I tended to try to get 1/72 model kit ones if they were about, much metter.

Oh the memories.... Razz

with vietnam gear and bren type guns?

Sounds like some Chindits to me (UK/Commonwealth Tropical forces with slouch hats), an interesting change from the usual.

Plastic Army Men; the gateway drug to tabletop wargaming!

Yeah I had them too.  I used to get a pack (usually nicely detailed Airfix ones) whenever we went on a camping trip, so during summer holidays My brother and I were usually found digging mini trenches in the back garden and refighting whatever war film we had been watching.

Much to my parents exacerbation I went on to develop a full blown miniature soldier addiction.  Very Happy

I'm into tabletop war games and have been for 20 odd years.  I tend to make and paint models while I wait for infantry to move up in CC. :)

If you want a CC type experience then I would heartily recommend the Battlegroup series of WW2 rules by Iron Fist Publishing. It supports platoon and company level fights including rules for off table Artillery and Aircraft support.  Rules are reasonably quick and has an interesting mechanic for deciding victory that I find most pleasing.

http://ironfistpublishing.com/

It can be used in a range of scales, primarily 1/72 (20mm) or 1/100 (15mm).  With the plastic models now available from the likes of The Plastic Soldier Company it make building (multiple?) forces reasonably affordable.

A few taster images from the books....

Having somehow slept through the release of GTC I picked this up at a Wargame Convention (Salute) a few weeks ago and got going.  The visual improvements are welcome but being a long time CC player and being well used to the combined arms approach.

However playing Allies I am just not find this to be a challenge.  I have both bars set to Elite and have seen the criticism here of the Ai but I am wondering if there is anything to up the Ante?

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader in '89 was my first tabletop wargame.  Man that was an eye opener! Shocked

First computer wargame was CC2 Bridge Too Far in '99 about a week after I had spent my student loan on my first computer and found the Computer Exchange store in London.

Both of thoise things also explain where most of my spare cash wend for the last 15 years. Smile
