actually i only stumbled on that option after a frustrating session trying to port forward.. tho in my case i only had to change my pc's ip.the other 3 pc's on the network i left as is..with no problems.
but i geuss that this kind of fix is really user specific.

If you have a somewhat more modern router you can actually solve the entire external-internal ip problem (gamespy ug) by matching the two(ie external ip 2.2.2.2 internal ip 2.2.2.2).
My router has that handy dandy option (with the remark that its for OLD games), so no need for port forwarding. Smile

for me it really depends on the mod Im Playing and which side.. so for example, playing GJS against German Ai, I will allow the Ai to see my units (the assumption being that as defending force they have more "battle overview").. however if I play as germans I wont give the Americans see all. Same goes for Stalingrad,If I play as germans the soviets can see all.

Another little rule i made for myself-when defending against Ai I only deploy 10 units not 15...

Really the best deal is to play against Human opponents, but barring that, playing with settings can help a lot.

PostForum: The Mess   Posted: Fri Mar 09, 2007 9:58 am   Subject: The BS list of weapons that changed the world
nice lists! Heres mine;

1. The sling/spear. probably the first effective thrown weapons ever made.
2. The roman short sword, Made for effective use at close combat
3. Greek fire- as stated above
4. The trubuche (sp?) -the ultimate catapult
5. The musket- as stated above
6. The canon- marked the end of 'mechanical" projectile weapons and the start of 'chemical" ones if ya know what i mean, same as the musket
7. The Radio -changed the entire nature of warfare.
8. The Tank -again changed the nature of warfare
9.Combat aircraft
10.Aircraft carriers

My list is not so much specific weapons, but more about weapon types that changed warfare forever..anyhooo.

no insignia on their caps for penals?

rapist, murderer and so on...:

Didnt want to offend here, but it was common for both sides on the East front to use penal units, that had some bad records:

Gulag - > Front also existed as "negative behaviour" in ones own unit, could mean sentence to penal units... Germans for example had the very infamous Dirlewanger unit, which actually was composed of criminals (murderer, rapists...). Russia formed some Gulag penal battallion (those i think are the actully stafniki)

with the enumeration (it was sort of cynic) i wanted to stess that the reasons are plentifull sending people to Gulags, Zuchthaus(german prisons, dont know if Kz-victims ever forced to fight) or were militarily sentenced to difficult tasks... i mean we are dealing with totalitarian dictarorships and pure hierarchical governments.

and its not just a legend:
there are accounts that actual combat between non-armed and armed units occured in the course of the war in the East... no large operation for sure, but sometimes it happend... have one good indication in the diary about how the german hq analysed that and warning goebbels not to use it as an indicator for his "russia is nearly dead" propaganda..

You should try to remember that the soviet HQ wouldnt allow a picture of 'real' penal units to be taken. The pose indicate to me this is a pure PR shot, so they all have weapons, the question remains, were they allowed to keep em all when they went to battle?

It is FAR BELOW what I feel.

Cheers, and thanks for your support.

PJ

P.S.: If you play Wintergewitter, just wait for the 1.1 version, where starting positions have been fixed. It was really a concern. I have to apologise.
You can start ANY campaign or OP you want: they are totally compatible with the 1.1 version (The original SDK label is also a security!), so you won't have to restart.

Hi Pzjager!,

I would agree with what was said above, its discourtious to just go and PUBLISH a own version without contacting the original modder first ESPECIALY when the mod in question is still'hot off the press".
I would also like to add that you shouldnt be concernd with support, you have my support and several others as well!

As for the mod, I am playing it now(no vetmods) against russian AI and am having a hell of a time! Great maps and the battles are nasty, not to mention the suprise of being overrun in the north west and finding my units out of supply!

Anyway, we got your back man so chill, its all good!

Intresting mod, good work.
Although i would agree that Infantry firing away at a tank over long distances is just suicide, be it 1948 or 2008 Infantry just WONT do that .(up close is different...)

I like the Heli and Mirage spotters, but as allways you cannot place them in Buildings making them somewhat inefficient.

The BIg maps (the one included and some maps from Battle of Berlin that i added ) are buggy! The main issue being that the "deployable" area is heavly distorted,I get gaps in the "dark areas". with some VL's I placed actually changing hands at the start of maps, AND despite capturing them they change back at the start of the next battle..

There is an Israely "heavy armourd combat vechile" that looks like a vehicle when you select it, but when you play all you get is a squad of men...

One last thing; How do i UNINSTALL this mod...??
