Forum: Close Combat Last Stand Arnhem Posted: Fri Oct 03, 2014 11:39 pm Subject: BG Merging Issue |
I am sure this has been answered somewhere, but after I can't find an answer to my specific problem.
I am playing an H2H GC and merged several BGs into one "super battlegroup", especially to increase slots in the BG roster. That worked well, but certain units from BGs that got merged into don't show up in the req screen. Are they just not available in the GUI because there the list is limited in length (and will appear in the BG roster when the preparatory game AI chooses them) or have they disappeared for good?
Annoyingly, I get types with 0 teams availabe listed in the req screen.
Thx for your help. |

Thx, I converted it to .mobi and currently read it on my kindle. Good read.
BTW, it's LSA we got to run, in CC5 I don't get beyond stock+5.01a. |

Turned out to be a Hamachi problem. Had to accept the opponents key sumpin before I could connect. Two battles and a strat move yesterday night without any bother. Didn't have to take down router or PC firewall or mess with ports. Hope everything stays that smooth.
Maybe interesting for some: Win8+Hamachi seems a problematic combo and I couldn't get it to run on the other machine.
And I think I stepped on a cobra with my opponent. This guy is crazy good and knows his CC. |

OS is indeed Win-7 64bit
I installed it into the Program Files dir, it is write protected there as well and the protection can't easily be removed. I, at least, also wasn't able to patch it in there.
Do you know how that attrib command prompt thing works?
Shit like this pisses me off. I mean if it were cracked warez, OK, but I paid for a legit copy. |

The only thing so far is that the network code in CC5 must be at least slightly different. CC5 displays the 192.168. bullshit AND the Hamachi IP as my IPs.
However, under Win7 it is a royal pain to install. If I install CC5 in the \Programs (x86) dir I can't mod it (e.g. GJS) because the maps are write-protected and the protection can only be lifted via commands in the command shell. Typical for Microsoft you can uncheck the box in the GUI, but when you refresh it's all protected again (by the system). I use the exact syntax of the attrib command a Microsoft support page gives me, but the command prompt says my parameter is wrong???
If I install CC5 anywhere else I can't 5.01a patch it.

I found the settings, it works insofar as CC now says the Hamachi IP is my IP. Still can't connect, neither to another PC in my LAN I set up with CC-LSA and Hamachi (no matter if firewall is up or down) or to my opponent (no matter if he hosts or I).
Any further advice? |

Thx for your advice, will try.
I didn't notice anything about trial. The commercial version just offers more options, but as far as I understand it the free one should work fine and unlimited for gaming.
Hamachi has always been commercial in the sense that you could buy an enhanced package that offered things like priority connection, more members per network etc. |

I try to hook up with another player via Hamachi.
However, when I fire up CC (LSA) the multiplayer screen says my IP is 192.168.etcetc. and not the IP Hamachi allotted me. This is the address of my PC in my LAN. My internet connection is cable WAN. This problem has bugged me since I started playing CC and switched to cable almost one and a half decades ago. I've been off a few years and can't remember how I fixed that.
When I deactivate my LAN connection the game accepts the Hamachi IP and displays it. I however can't get online and connect. When I re-activate the LAN connection the game still says my IP is the Hamachi one but nonetheless can't connect.
H2H inside my LAN works fine, btw.
Help much appreciated. |

Is all that criticism pre-5.60.01b patch? Because I just got the game and love it.
Only seen one instance of armor vs armor combat though and a Firefly easily bagged a StuGIII from the front with one shot though. (?) |

Unfortunately Atomic never fixed before they closed their doors.
The CC releases available through Matrix Games have this bug fixed.

Nice of Matrix to do so. But the CC5 that comes with TLD ain't compatible with the classic CC5 and won't take mods written for it, right? |

What's up with those combusting stone fences when a tank drives over it? Or the secondary stone fence explosions when HE hit it? Unless I'm totally mistaken, never noticed that outside TRSM. Non-TRSM GJS has combusting wire fences when troops cross them, but not explosive stone fences. |

I'm not sure, but I think it is like I stated above:

I think the command range of non-command teams is indicated by circles when you hit the space bar because soldiers can split off from their teams. So when a split off teammember is inside his leader's command range, he'll be reattached to the team. Maybe that's at the bottom of your confusion.

The remark about the 2inch mortar was anticipated, only sooner . Will try and fix this in the patch that I am currently working on. The same for assault fire: I think stock CC has this enabled in order make close assaulting more effective. Disabling it could result in your assaulting squad being slaughtered before they reach their target. I am going to test this though.
|
IIRC from my QClone days it should be an easy fix. There's a column for firing manner direct/indirec or sumpin and one for the color scheme if I'm not totally mistaken. Just check what value firearms have there and copy it, that should do it. Nice realism touch btw, thx.
As for assault fire. Dunno if the assault fire from bolt action rifles has ever done anything for me. It's more like you order them to run and the fools start to bang away at an enemy unit far away on the other side of the map which they happen to spot. Thereby revealing their own position. It's more a nuisance than useful. MPs and pistols should be assault firing IMO, everything else has to be deployed. |

I once fired a modernized MG42 from the hip. Had a belt going from it around my neck, was standing still and crouching in anticipation. Aiming downwards at a target lying in the grass a few feet in front of me. The second bullet was already off target and the weapon was marching uncontrollably upwards and to the right with me in tow. No human strength can control that. Apart from the fact that noone on that day hit the target which was practically point blank anyways. Conclusion: SAWs and assault fire = forget it. Must deploy.
|
Hmm well i have fired my share of machineguns from the hip. and i was always able to book hits on the target.... In the army to fire a MG as follows... Hold the mg tight to the hip. Unlock the bipod grip both legs/arms (what ever you would call that) lean forward... like your legs make a kind of triangle shape... if you fire in bursts the mg should stay on target and not tip you of ballance... I know there was an instruction vid on youtube... coudnt find it...

7.62mm weapon? Hmm, didn't work for me, we'll have to leave it at that cause I doubt we'll ever have the opportunity to go MG shooting together.
Anyways, I don't see anybody assault-firing with such a weapon. IIRC it's 13kg heavy when loaded with a belt. Take a barbell, load 3kg of plates on each end and run around in your garden imagining firing the contraption while moving. |
