That's very interesting! When I studied history, we were told never to rely or even trust wikipedia. Anyone can write it, and as proven, it isn't always accurate.
|
I'd say the same about "official" Russian reeports |

here's the thing though
We all know the Soviets were weak pussies and lied to their superiors.. or told their superiors what they wanted to hear.
They had no heart and would not stand up to authority.. a few good men could have saved the world from soviet atrocities but no like the Nazis they failed miserably.
That is the historical facts and no amount of denying it will change it. |

Or perhaps I am brilliant... there are a few that frequent these boards that know that's not true.
simple strat map choices of which maps to attack and where to have a main thrust.. TLD and LSA have no choices.
there are those that argue that the strat map is just a way of getting into battle, but making it just slightly interesting helps in the immersion value. |

I pointed you towards a H2H run through and that was easy as the allies.. it's just a joke against the AI
I think I captured the entire Ruhr when playing v the AI |

[quote@ Shcrecken - I didn't read the whole thread. Are you Andrew Williams or something? He didn't seem to have an easy time with it.[/quote]
yeh, that's me.
All maps but 6 were won in 1 single battle.. as close as can be to a walkover.. H2h not just v the AI.
TLD is much the same, little or no decisions to make just do as tasked robotically.
WaR you get to make decisions on both sides of the battle.
i haven't played GTC yet, but the map looks the same, no choices to make just barge ahead butting your head until the opposition submits. |

Easy trick as the allies is to avoid inflicting casualties until key VL's are taken.
The final battle washup
Congratulations to my opponent for sticking with a total lost cause, he never lost his sense of humour and used what forces he was given with energy and imagination.
25 turns required to achieve total victory 31 turns not played
About 6 maps that took more than one battle to clear - Pannerden was a beauty, Arnhem Heights and Dinther were tight.
Nearly all the others were simply a walkover.
The Axis forces are so weak they can't cover all map VL's and as soon as they are assaulted their morale breaks.
more to follow..... |

I agree with plt_michael in that WaR offers the best offensive/defensive options of the Strat. map series of games.
I couldn't stand CC4 though.
CoI offers a similar mix of offensive and defensive options |

My preference is CoI
of the strat level games WaR as that has a map that doesn't just involve butting your head up against the enemy for the entire battle.
War at least gives you some alternative routes to take and strategic decisions....
but i get tired of the all white maps though. |

Finland v Russia in a no holds barred clash. Luer's modification of CloseCombat III covering the Finno-Soviet conflict from 39 to 44. All Germans removed from the game and replaced by Finnish units. The Russian teams were completely reworked, with correct translations and new teams like NKVD Border Guards and Morskaya Pekhota units. A new Grand Campaign was added as well. |
