I had mused about a mod about this years ago after reading about the battles around Shanghai and, not as long ago, the Marco Polo Bridge. I can see a mod built around Shanghai as a stand alone. A grand campaign could be interesting, as we have the Republican, Communist, and Japanese forces involved.
If anyone has any resources they can share on this subject, I'd appreciate it if you could share it. There isn't much available in English as far as I know.

Hey All,
Yeah, I lived over in China for 5 years as an English teacher in Hangzhou. So I got interested in the Sino-Japanese war 1937-1945. It was just as brutal a conflict as the Eastern Front if not more so. I think it would make a great mod. But it's a huge area of war, I've been doing research and studying it. There are photos and maps with which to piece together game maps. The weapons would be interesting, because the Chinese KMT was equipped with numerous weapons and vehicles from many countries. The Japanese also had most of their army's strength deployed in China during the war, most of their tank divisions were there.
The Battle for Shanghai would probably be the most interesting, very much like Stalingrad. Japanese had strong naval support from their ships, and also airplanes. Chinese had more troops, and they were the crack German trained divisions.
There's a good initial source of the war on wikipedia. Tells about the major battles.
