Try disabling your Virus Scanner when you install CC4.
Older game installers don't like virus scanners running in the background.

I got another idea, GET RID OF XP and install
Win 98. That's what the game was designed
to run on Smile

Naah...CC4 runs fine on WinXP...especially if you run this nifty utility:

Your right SquadLeader.

That Util. works great. The Guy who wrote that
program deserves a Sliver Star! Now I can run CC4 on
my fast Pentium 4 (Win98se) without having to adjust
the video and reboot. However, scrolling was still a
problem, (too fast), so I use a small progam called
"TurboDown", that fixes that problem. Smile

As far as XP goes, I don't think I'll ever use it...

I'm not getting any errors, but the game slows down ALOT after a couple of maps.

The close combat starter link posted previous n this thread does not work for me.

What do I have to do to play this old school classic (CC4) on my new PC with out lag?

If it is slowing down as you play longer, I think it may be that your processor is starting to overheat. It might be time to clean the dust out of the heatsink and air passages/fans etc. Some towers have provision to add an additional cooling fan. aslo, you could try switching your screen resolution to see if that helps.

cheers

Hmm...an ancient game like CC4 causing Proc overheat? Unlikely...CC4 is not Crysis Wink

Looks to be a memory leak symptom...since CC4 is not a game known for inherent memory leak problems...it might be your PCs RAM or incorrect OS Virtual RAM settings. AFAIK, spyware and trojans also cause memory leak.

Seeying this is about XP

I havent encountered any problems getting CC4 installed on XP
but might be the game itself
the game runs with hick-ups every couple of seconds.
and my PC is way beyond the system requirements
(2.8 Ghz, 512 Ram, 256mb Geforce FX5700)
and especially the unit placement pre-battle responds really slow
I have to hold my mouse-click on a unit for a time before I can move it.
anyone familiar with this?

EDIT: Have the same deal in CC5
also the 98 compability doesnt seem to work nor the tool posted above
its almost unbearable at points

Thanks,
HunterICX
