Hi community,

Kostas1977 began working on that mod for some time now. You can find the finiished command screens here:

http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=thumbnails&album=168

The mod will cover the German airborne assault on Crete in May 1940. Since research led Kostas1977 to the conclusion that the key section of the whole Crete campaign was that battle for maleme airfield, he decided to concentrate the mod on this crucial battle. I consider that you all know already sth. about Crete but here once more some conrnerstone info:

- 1st major airborne attack in military history
- outnumbered Axis beats larger force of Allies
- arguably one of the most brutally fought battles -> inofficial reason for German brutality during occupation
- Mainly and inf vs. inf close comabt battle

Key Features:

Overall:
unique maps, deriving from personal location visits and satellite pictures.
unique mediterranian vegetation (lots of bushes, few trees, mountainous and harsh terrain...)

Germans:
-Elite Fallschirmjäger and Mountaindivision troops
-little to no heavy weapons for Germans
-Complete air superiority for germans

Allies:
- Mixed and independent battlegroups of Greeks and ANZAC
- Several ad-hoc militia troops for Greeks
- Tanks, AA and AT guns

Great news! Really looking forward to this mod.
Have you guys gotten in touch with the Polish team working on CC4 Kreta (if my info is correct)? Maybe you can compare data.

What about maps? Brand new ones? AFAIK Kreta has a good number of maps done before the (slow) port from CC5 to CC4.

CC5 Crete Maleme Sector, CC4 Kreta and also work in progress to complete CC2 Kreta...FJ fans will wet their pants Very Happy

Good luck with the mod and keep up the great work!

Just for clarification,

http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3558&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Kindly, Andima also helped out with the map coding.

I think squadleader_id was probably thinking of the Monte Casino mod which is being worked on by a team in Poland.

There are some major differences between the CCIV and CCV data sets (particularly the force pool structure) but I'm sure collaboration would be to everyone's benefit.

The last e-mail I got from Aetius, he was "immersed in data." Shocked

Thanks for posting your screenshots. The graphics look great!

cheers

Sorry for the confusion...yup I was confused Wink
The development of this long awaited Kreta mod is confusing.
But as long as CC4 Kreta is still going strong.

Hi,

Like Yukongold said, i'm still busy with force pools and data.

When i've finished these i'll probably release a beta version to test the mod.

ETA? I really can't put an ETA on this, it all depends how much spare time i can scrape together.

YES I believe that there could be 2 or 3 projects on Crete. However only 1 that I know of for CC5 and it possibly is dead.

I did want to at least give you guys a link. You may to practice your Francais. FFL Cheesecake told me there were looking for rare Greek partisan photos but that was a long time ago (2005?). Also I believe Manoi and Dom were working on some maps...looks like they got a lot done.

I believe this CC5 Kreta is the mod currently 'ported' to CC4. At least the mod is using some of the CC5 Kreta maps?
And Nembo is finishing up CC2 Kreta...can't wait!

summer 2008 will be used to visit crete fro photos of the area to create the mods... will take some time, but this mod will be done one way or the other...

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
