Well, US Brake and I started a LSA GC tonight.

The situation looked a little bleak for the front line guys at Valkenswaard except one lone mg42 keeping the Tommies at bay.  The Bridge units made a strong stand in the SON area battlefields vs the 101st forcing a change in tactics than is normal vs the AI.  No more open field running and human wave tactics here!  Switching to a more cautious approach, the yanks are having to use heavy smoke and lots of supressing fire to cross some deadly open fields.  The Screamin Eagles took some intense counter fire and lots of casualties trying to get a toe hold in several areas.  The Son bridge itself is blown to smithereens.  Elliot Gould is happy yet again that they only blew the bridge up just before crossing as compared to blowing it up while he was ON the bridge.

As the day wears on, the people of Holland will watch and pray as the 82nd hits the ground in preparation to take Nijmegan.

Fighting Broke out in the nijmegan region and near Arnhem today.

In the town of Grave, a small force of German troops held back a small force of US Airborne soldiers.  The 82nd failed to muster enough troops to overpower the germans dug in near the flak tower.  After losing 3 rifle teams in the attempt, the troopers had to consolidate and hang on for more reinforcements to arrive.

Near Huemen bridge the Germans thought they had the 82nd troopers by the heels because they were out in the open and under heavy fire.  After many tense minutes of firing at each other, the Americans popped smoke and escaped over the berm to safety where they regrouped and dashed for a patch of woods near the bridge. Where they were lucky to have been alive.  An airstrike at the end of the battle broke the morale of the german defenders.

Grafwegen:  The German troops once again had the drop with the US troops out in the open, but they managed to maneuver around the rear to gain some fighting space.  The US mortar crew did some nice work on the german stronghold, their accurate fire knocked out a german AA gun, damaged another and caused enough casualties and suppression to allow the 82nd to work its way around the back edge of the map to get some nice territory for the next battle.

Blankenberg Bridge, heretofore known as "Bloody Bridge", was one of our most intense see-saw battles yet.  The US 82nd blanketed the area with smoke and made a mad dash to the bridge under heavy MG and rifle fire.  Upon reaching the bridge and clearing explosives, troops were beaten back and retreated into the safety of the woods with what was left of 4 rifle teams and a platoon HQ.  The Germans regrouped and took the vl at the bridge.  Not yet feeling defeated, the US threw some more smoke and send the rifle teams back out to capture the bridge.  Yet again, after taking the VL, the troops broke and the Germans retook the bridge.  A final assault by a fresh rifle team secured the bridge a thrid time.  However, by this time the morale of the troops was wavering and force morale forced a retreat from the bridge.

Groesbeek and Wolfheze, these signaled the final battles of the first turn.  Both were well fought affairs, with modest gains on the map made by the parachutists of the Allies.  Next turn promises to be another difficult day for both sides.

Due to hurricane 'Will's Wife', the campaign between US Brake and Will Knott had to be suspended for a day (possibly a few days) until the storm passes over.  However, I can now provide an update while the eye passes over.

Valkenswaard:
US Brake demonstrates that he will stop at nothing to stem the advance of XXX corp at all costs.

Best:
hard times for the 101st.  Troopers in the area still being seriously outgunned and unable to cross huge open fields without cover.  With only a few harsh words to arm themselves with, they managed to only sneak a few yards and finish clearing the woods to the north.  In the West and South the germans hold all the ground with MG's and 88's.

St. Odenrode:
the first battle being very far from the bridge and hotly contested, troopers abandoned Veghel and moved south into St. Odenrode to attempt to capture the bridge from the VL much nearer to the bridge.  This proved successful and the 101'st secured a bridgehead on the map with what will appear to be a mop up operation next turn.

Grave bridge is next.  Operations hope to continue for a little bit on Satur'day', with another 'relatives' front possibly moving in Saturday evening.

Hey Brake, I saved the old install with our GC. but I reloaded with the 56002b patch.  Not sure if it will take the campaign, but have you tried it?  I played it a bit, and tank pathing is much better.  Maybe it will fix up your other issue.
