Narrated by Laurence Olivier and first broadcast in 1973 when memories of the Second World War were still clear in people's minds and the war's veterans numerous, over 26 episodes this unique series assembled these recollections, together with archive footage, to create one of the most powerful and successful historical documentaries ever seen. The voices of those that fought, worked or watched during the war gave each episode a vivid sense of what it was like to be there and was the hallmark of the series.

Baker Boys, just screened on ABC here in OZ. Pretty down to earth on the mental state of troops during and after deployment. Which incedently is a staggering 14 months for US troops
In the final credits it stated that 5000 troops had lost their lives in IRAQ & Afghanistan.
More than this number have taken their own lives since returning to the US after deployment
That is a shocking statistic.
You know if you don't live it.... You can't give it.

Anybody know of any documentaries of, say, World War 2 that would look at the war from an individual soldiers point of view? There are many good autobiographies of the war written by soldiers but I can't think of any good documentaries about these soldiers.
I know the overall history of WW 2 quite well so I'm not that interested in these "History of World War 2" - type things.
