Close Combat 5:Korea July 1950
BATTLE GROUPS
In the scenario editor part of CC5, there are little icons that you drag and drop to establish what battlegroups are in your scenario, op or campaign. I finally dug into this part and now have to rearrange my bg's and fp's to get the right unit to be in the right place on that screen. You know, on the left is the german side and it says "infantry" with lots of room for those icons, then below that is 3 slots for "airborne" and below that is "other". same on the right for the US bg's. Infantry, airborne and other. I'll mod the graphics to say "infantry", armor and other for communists; and "infantry", "support" and "Task Force Smith" for UN. Not a real big deal just renumbering in the adb's but it will look more professional to have them fit in a certain displayed order or category.
NKPA (North Korean Peoples Army):
It seems that CC5 differs from CC4 in that in CC5, each battle group (BG) gets its own force pool (FP) vice CC4 with 3 BG that share a single FP.
So, here is my revised plan for NKPA BG's, each with its own FP.
1. 7th Rgt-3rd Inf Div. (1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalions as battle groups)
2. 8th Rgt-3rd Inf Div. (same as above)
3. 9th Rgt-3rd Inf Div. (same as above)
4. 5th Rgt-4th Inf Div. (same as above)
5. 16th Rgt-4th Inf Div. (same as above)
6. 18th Rgt-4th Inf Div. (same as above)
7. 105th Armoured Brigade (3 different tank/infantry units)
8. Infiltrators (3 light infantry platoons as battle groups)
9. Divisional Artillery (3 company-size units which be composed of ground defense units and artillery piecese of an artillery unit, they can hold part of the line to keep supply open or be overrun)
UN/US ARMY:
Again, I will plan to use 27 battle groups each with its own FP.
1. 1st Bn-21st Rgt-24th Inf Div. (3 company size battle groups, A, B and C)
2. 3rd Bn-21st Rgt-24th Inf Div. (same as above, I, K and L)
3. 1st Bn-19th Rgt-24th Inf Div. (same as above, A, B and C)
4. 2nd Bn-19th Rgt-24th Inf Div. (same as above, E, F and G)
5. 1st Bn-34th Rgt-24th Inf Div. (same as above, A, B and C)
6. 3rd Bn-34th Rgt-24th Inf Div. (same as above, I, K and L)
7. 24th Division attached units (A company, 78th Heavy tank Bn with M24's;
A battery of the 26th AAA Bn, and the 24th Recon Co.)
8. 24th Division Artillery (same comments as NKPA FP9) At least I will use A battery, 52nd Field Artillery Bn with 105's, as part of Task Force Smith at Osan)
9. 24th Division's 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion (3 companies, A, B and C)
Thinking of adding 2 BG's from 1st Cavalry Division that arrived last week of July in place of 2 of the 3 Field artillery batteries.
ROK: sorry, not yet. Maybe in another mod.
CCF (Chinese Communist Forces):
sorry, not yet! Maybe in another mod later on...
USMC US MARINE CORPS:
sorry, not yet! Maybe in a CC5: Korea August 1950 mod.
COMMONWEALTH (BRITS, AUSSIES, CANADIANS):
sorry, not yet! Maybe in a follow on mod.
BATTLE
MAPS
Since we are using CC5, we need to come up with 43 replacement battle maps to turn the 1944 Cotentin peninsula around Cherbourg and Utah Beach into the battlefields of South Korea in the 5-30July 1950 timeframe in the region around Suwon, Osan, Pyongtaek, Chonan and down across the Kum River to the vicinity of Taejon.
Suwon
Osan
Ansong
Sojong-ni
Pyongtaek
Songhwan-ni
Chonan
Chonui
Chochiwon
Kongju
Kum River line and bridge defense positions
Taejon (various parts for urban combat)
STRATEGIC
MAPS
MY LATEST STRATEGIC MAP
Since we are using CC5, we need to come up with a replacement strategic layer map to turn the 1944 Cotentin peninsula around Cherbourg and Utah Beach into the Suwon-Taejon sector of South Korea in the July 1950 timeframe. See my first ideas on this aspect of the mod (look here)
2Apr: Now I am examining the idea of completely redesigning the shapes of the various tiles in a new start map that accurately portrays the Suwon-Taejon sector. This hopefully will not prove too diificult. I'll come up with some rough draft graphics later this week.
