It started with CC2 in 1998 and then we made it for CC3 as well. Last projects were an overhaul of CC3 GW and CC5 Cambrai 1917 (2005). For the latter we had a french member, living close to the battlefield who took a number of landscape photos for the project.
I once thought of a CC5 pocket mod of Pozières 1916 or Vimy 1917 for which we had superb maps made by then well known mapmakers like Naked_Foot, Fish and others.
My advice for a new WWI mod would be to focus on a period or battle of the war and reduce the numer of weapon systems and units accordingly. Our CC3 project, which covered the entire war was too unwieldy to mod and finish.

That is one reason why I decided to do this mod...to draw back on the number of weapon systems and make it mostly an infantry battle. Because I like a variety of maps, though, I intentionally did not center on a particular battlefield or operation. In fact, you could fight at Verdun one day and then take the ANZACs and fight the Ottoman Empire at Gallipoli.

No doubt, WWI was more global than the second. Not just in Turkey but also many more theaters in Africa, with the colonial troops. I think there were also some skirmishes in the Middle East between the Ottomans and British Empire.

Too bad, CC5 Cambrai never came out, while in closecombat.org, I also noticed the post about CC5 Verdun mod. It is funny the website is still active.
