In my view, these things always depend on the maps, but mainly if the maps are new, but not harvested from the CC3 download section.

Interesting point and timing Stwa. DAK_Legion and I just completed our first new and original map together for Tarawa.

It would be great to have a COI grand campaign with all brand new maps. The last time that happened was 2007 with Cross of Iron Campaign: Össttlliiche Wutt (Fuger's Eastern Fury) by John ‘Misfit’ Fuger (12 Operations).

Tarawa as planned will require about 50 custom maps. Some from the CC3 download section (repainted), and others brand new. If anyone has time to help make a new map(s) we would welcome the assistance. Just msg myself or DAK_Legion.

As far as I know, every custom CC3 grand campaign ever made since 1999 has harvested maps from the CC3 download section. There are so many CC3 maps many of them have never been played on by most players. I think there are plenty of opportunities to use the older CC3 maps in new original ways on future COI mods and campaigns.

beg borrow or steal in effect  Cool !

Hi US BRAKE

I have a couple of Pac style maps ready.
They are not really tailored for tarawa but i think they might suit for Guadalcanal.
I do not what is your style as map maker but if you are interested in getting a sample of what I did I am ready to share with you

Hello US_Brake,

feel free to use my BetioTail-map from the CC2-download section as well. It is compatible to Manoi's Betio maps.

Cheers and good luck for your project

Beautiful main screen US_Brake!!  You've really gotten me 'stoked' for this mod!  Now that my son is back from deployment to Iraq (1st ID) I will have much more time for gaming.  He's on his way back to his posting and will be into his normal routines after a 21-day leave to visit family and friends.

Thanks for the preview!  Smile

PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2015 5:47 pm Post subject: Re: Tarawa Reply with quote

In November 1943, the Marine recon units of 2nd Marine Division participated in the seizure and occupation of Tarawa Atoll, the site of a strategically important airfield. Prior to D-Day on November 10, no preliminary reconnaissance was performed except the submarine periscope photography taken by Capt. James Jones, of VAC Amphib Recon Company aboard the USS Nautilus (SS-168). The first ashore at Betio was a Scout-Sniper Platoon of 2nd Marine Regiment led by 1st Lieutenant William D. Hawkins.

Hawkins was tasked with securing the island ramp on one of the two long piers extending into the lagoon. He and his recon-scout platoon raced ahead of the first wave in two Higgins Boats and landed on the pier where they were placed under heavy machine gun fire. Since there were petrol drums at the end of the pier in the line of enemy fire, Hawkins sent most of his Marines back down the ramp then proceeded with only five men, four scouts and one combat engineer with a flamethrower. Once they burned and had blown up every hiding place left on the pier, they withdrew to the boat. Hawkins then commandeered three LVTs and transferred his men from both LCVPs to these for the trip to shore where they joined their regiment for the rest of the battle. Hawkins was later killed during this action and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

DAK_Legion and I created a new map that depicts the Tarawa lagoon and pier. Here is a screenshot during Op testing.
