PostPosted: Sun Nov 29, 2015 8:35 pm Post subject: Map Making, GTC and old Maps (CC3, CCIV, CCV, CCMT) Reply with quote

I know this has been posted before, but I was about my experience in map making for CTC so here goes:

A. One of the things I like about CTC (and PITF) was the realistic feel of the new maps.  The team at Matrix/Siltherine really did a fantastic job with this round of maps!  That is why I have modded many of their maps for my games by adding to them (or if making a beach, taking away if you will). I wish I had the talent/knowledge/graphics program to do what they did!

B. To convert an old map (CC3 and after, including LSA, TLD and WAR) using 5CC:

choose your map and open in 5CC
            Open "Actions" at the top
Select "Set Scale" and scroll to the bottom where it says "Graphics Scale"
Another box will open, move to "new scaling percentage" and put it "160"  (if for some reason, it 'pops' to zero, close your map, re-open and try again)
Hit "Scale" and your map will be a size fitting GTC/PITF...but you are not finished.  Disregard issues with the roofs; that will be fixed next
close the box and re-open "Set Scale" in "Actions"
Scroll down and select "8 pixels per meter/24 bits...."
This will fix the roofs (lining up all graphics) and set your pixels for GTC/PITF

Now, you need to make sure the graphic elements are the same.  This is hit and miss for me.  Some maps, the graphic elements line up with CTC and sometimes they don't.  What I do is, do a quick LOS emulation, save the map and place it in my game.   I open the game and map and do a quick sweep of the map elements in the game to ensure all is correct.   If not,  I reopen the map, and do the following:

Open "Actions", select "Data Bulk Replacement" and another box will open
Open file to load (usually CC3 to CCMT works)
Load the file, hit "replace", answer "yes".
Do a LOS emulation, save your map, place in game and check elements again.  Change elements you need to change.

(don't ask me how to do heights- I still haven't figured this out to my satisfaction.)

Anyway, my experience with map making/converting for CTC has been mostly positive. The only really complaint I have is when taking a CCMT map and expanding it for CTC, the vehicle graphics on the map become 60% bigger than the actual in-game vehicle graphics.  It is strange seeing a civilian car as big or bigger than an M1A1 Abrams tank!  But otherwise, everything else looks good.  Here is some of my most extensive map mods.

If you have any questions, let me know!

Thanks for posting Bel! This is a very useful guide for future modconversions to GtC.
Good looking maps too by the way  Smile

No worries, Pete. One thing I forgot to mention, after converting and opening your new map in the game you may see white boxes around your buildings. Reopen your map in 5CC and select "Action" again, go to roof actions and select "adjust all roofs to polygon shape". Save map and put back in your game. If you need anything let me know!

I didn't realize you owned the copyrights of those textures but that does make sense  Embarassed . Are you sure there is no contractual agreement with Slitherine that prevents you from sharing them?

The maps as the end product is owned by Slitherine however the standalone textures and objects are mine.

A texture and object pack would be a product generated after the process and therefore falls under the creative commons license. The purpose of the pack is non-commercial so everyone is allowed to use it. Allthough not when implemented in a product which is intended to be sold.

Anyway enough of that Smile could I host this pack somewhere here?

Would be great to have some more map resources to work with.

Any progress on uploading your textures and objects Conrad?

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
