I'm scratching my head on thinking of a way to weaken the MG42 in the game as it is frankly ridiculous as it stands. It's meant to be effective yes, but a 2/300 meter, pinpoint accurate, smashing through stone buildings killing machine?
It's suppression ability makes sense, it's how it seemingly ignores buildings with glee that is bothering me.
The piercing rating isn't much different to other versions of the weapon 9mm steel in PitF compared to 5mm steel in Der Ost Front. I'm wondering whether weakening its base accuracy as well as the penetration is the way to go?
Anyone have suggestions as I'm finding some of the ways things are panning out in PitF to be very strange.
And use only the elements file in PITF for more realistic cover values all over IMO.
Thank you very much!
I haven't really looked at elements files before so I hadn't thought to check there. I'll do some installing and tweaking to see if I can give infantry some survivability.

It seems to be built of three parts. Information relevant to infantry: cover and protection etc. Then there is information in regards to vehicles: likelihood of immobilisation, rate of movement etc. Last are environmental characteristics, making things more flammable could be useful.
I’m not sure if it is possible to set it so that wheeled vehicles would be more skittish/fast on snow/ice while tracked vehicles are a bit more stable?
Effectiveness of HE rounds could be adjusted it seems to take into account shrapnel, debris etc. so that rubble piles throw fragments?
I’m guessing that camouflage is part of cover? Could be interesting to tweak to better hide AT guns and smaller vehicles. Building heights – it’s a shame they can’t be differentiated by region/map. Instead it seems to be based on averaging heights.
Some of the height values seem strange when looking at the elements file for Gateway to Caen. Both Small and Large Hedgerows are apparently 5m tall for example [unless I’m misreading things].
I'm not sure if I'm misreading the data or if the values stack for multi-storey buildings so each floor is 4m tall - I think that's how it is set up, come to think of it, 4m is quite high for each storey.

I should get a chance to experiment with it over the next few days. I'll play a bit more with the existing elements settings so I'll be able to compare
