I recently took a trip to Meacham Airfield to visit the Vintage Flying Museum. I made the trip to see the B-29 FIFI. I seen the B29 in flight at an airshow a few years back and I did not want to miss an opportunity to see her up close. Shes down for maintanence until February or so then shes back on the airshow circuit. She is part of the Commemorative Air Force which has multiple hangars in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The VFW is the only hangar large enough to house the B29 under maintanence. I took some picture to share with everyone here.

Four years later I returned to the Vintage Flying Museum in Fort Worth Texas. To my surprise the B17 "Charlie" is no longer there, last time I seen her I think was 2008. It was sold off... and the B29 "Fifi" was still there. The Commemorative Air Force is building a hangar for Fifi apparently somewhere else in Dallas, until then the Vintage Flying Museum is home for her. Had a nice chat with one of the employees who is a retired serviceman who used to support B52s flying out of Thailand during Vietnam.

B29 looks smaller than i`m expected. I wonder how it survived in shock wave after nuclear strikes.

Thanks Mooxe... to me like the Lancaster it is a work of art...

The ultimate in engineering...... without computers too.....

This might be the space to repost the doco on the B29 found in Alaska you posted years ago...

will certainly be of interest to those that have not seen it...

Cheers

Yeah the Kee Bird. Aux power generator broke loose during first taxi, spilling fuel throughout the fuselage which ignited, burning her down. The crew could only sit back in lawn chairs and watch her burn.

One thing I find really cool about the B-29 is the turret system. They are all remote controlled by like two operators, except the tail gun.

Does anyone know what became of the bomber that crashed recently? Was it a B-17?
