July update:
I have coded the maps and have been playing test battles. Next up is to complete the stratmap, that SchnelleMeyer has been working on. Remaining graphics work like icons is on me.

Issues so far: nothing major in terms of maps or data. I may want to recode some maps here and there. In terms of forcepools: the small battle groups on the PiTF/GtC platform can be an issue. I am looking for ways to increase the number of used unit slots without creating unrealistically large battle groups (several German BG's are company size or smaller).

No ETA!

It's been a while but I am finally ready to release version 1.0 of The Dieppe Raid, a mod for Gateway to Caen.

Download link: The Dieppe Raid download

The Dieppe Raid mod is provided as a manual install only. The download is comprised of the full mod folder that must be copied in its entirety into the main directory of your Close Combat Gateway to Caen install.

C:\Matrix Games\Close Combat Gateway to Caen\Mod_Dieppe_Raid

GUI.txt

The GUI.txt file that is provided must be copied into the BASE folder of the stock game. It will not work if you leave it in the BASE folder of the mod directory.
C:\Matrix Games\Close Combat Gateway to Caen\DATA\BASE
Make sure to back up the stock GUI.txt first! You must revert to it when playing the stock game.
The GUI.txt file determines the coordinates of various interface graphs. Since we used the PiTF interface it is significantly different from the stock game. Mods without changes to the interface do not require switching between different files.

CCE.exe - Dieppe Mod.
This file is a shortcut to the mod. Place it where it suits you.

Known bugs:

The day selector in the editor screen is not working properly, especially from day '6' onwards. If the left bracket is not placed accurately it will result in a CTD. Best to leave it alone.

One test player experienced crashes on the White Beach map. I have not been able to replicate it.

The AI might not always fill its forcepool slots. This will cause a CTD. Make sure the AI forcepool slots are filled in before moving on to the battle.

Release Notes:

The Dieppe Raid - a mod for Close Combat Gateway to Caen. Version 1.0.

Little known to the general public who, particularly in this day and age, do not tend to dwell on events of times long past, is Operation Jubilee, the Allied raid on the small French seaport of Dieppe. "Jubilee" took place on 19th August 1942 and was designed as a divisional raid on a fortified enemy coastal town. It proved to be a dreadful failure as it was poorly designed with insufficient understanding of the German defenses, the nature of the terrain and the capabilities of own troops. The result was a huge loss of manpower for only a few tasks accomplished. Because of this monumental failure, the raid has been the subject of many post-war studies.
Creating a mod is a kind of study in itself. To reconstruct the event, we used original aerial photographs to model the terrain and defenses, original reports from both Allies and Germans and some of the post-war literature.

We found some of the differences in strengths remarkable. Blue Beach, at Puits, was defended by only a platoon of infantry and assaulted by a Canadian force of battallion strength. Green Beach was similarly defended only by platoons and attacked by two battallions. Twenty-nine heavy tanks landed in front of Dieppe and they could not make the difference. Tenacious German defense contributed significantly to the Canadian defeat.
We hope to have succeeded in giving the player an impression of what difficulties the Allies, particularly the Canadians, encountered during the beach landings.

Enjoy!
