Hi all,

below is a photo of the German stosstrupp in Stalingrad.

This photo is often attributed as assault troop of 389.ID with support of StuGs during the fighting in Stalingrad in October 1942.
I think this photo is really good to get a vision of how the German soldiers were normally armed during city fights - mainly K98k (even NCO is carrying Kar instead of SMG) with M24 grenades and some MG.34 and MPs. Interesting to see a soldier armed with G.41(w) on a foreground, actually that was always making me think those were the soldiers from 24.Pz as usually G.41 was a weapon of 2 i/c in PzGrenadiere trupp.

Of course, it could be a staged photo and that's why no captured weapon is visible although I doubt it.

Interesting photo.... The buildings from then look the same as they do now, and with the colour it seems as if this photo is not 71 years old.

Looks like they are waiting for something.

Yes, they probably are gathering for an attack.

Thank you for the photos.

Yes, although I've never seen a first photo, the second one is attributed with same unit of 389.ID.
Looks like that's a same StuG IIIF8 as on my first photo Smile.

That colour picture can also be found in the e-book 'Stalingrad pocket'.  The picture comes out the US national archives apparently. It's just an awesome capture of a moment in time and in colour.  In the book it says it's near the tractor factory compound and that not 1, but 2 Stugs are involved on the road.

you can see the second StuG behind first - on same photo in b&w it is clearly seen.
