With the huge leak of a few hundred celeb nude photos comes the debate on who's responsible.

First and foremost, you are responsible for your own photos. For something as private as these you have to be very careful where and how to store them. Paying somebody else to store them is probably a bad idea because someone else now has your private photos. Apple has almost 100,000 employees, how many of them have access to the hard drive those photos are on?

Some are saying these celebs had their privacy violated. That is indeed the case. Who's at fault? IMO the person at fault is whomever had the ultimate responsibility of keeping these photos safe. That would be those people in the photos.

Replace the word photos with money. If your money is stolen from the bank would be insured. Huge difference. Your dignity cannot be insured.

That is an oddly short list of "who's at fault" from you. Surely the persons who hacked the accounts and those sharing (and viewing) the photos are also at fault for their own actions.

To use your money example, let us pretend that someone hacked into your online backing account. Sure, maybe you should have used a stronger password and maybe your bank should have done a better job preventing people from strange locations trying to access your account and better limit wrong answer attempts, but ultimately the person who hacked into your account is responsible in every meaningful way--especially criminally--just as in this celebrity photo hacking case.

There is a potential, although probably rare, chance that this could turn very interesting. The FBI has already said they are investigating the hacking but, potentially, they could have a charge with much more teeth to investigate. Some of the hacked photos reportedly belong to McKayla Maroney. So far she is denying that they are really of her, but imagine instead if she announced that they are of her and were taken before December--ie, when she was underage. Then the FBI could go after the hacker(s)--and those who simply shared or even viewed the photos--for child pornography.
Now, I doubt that will actually happen, but it would certainly be an interesting development.

I pretty much agree with you.

The people who did break into these accounts are at fault, not saying they are not. This is a definite breach of privacy and stealing data, they have broken laws. Ultimately though this is a case of dignity. The victims here put their dignity in the hands of others and lost. The victims ought to have known better than to store explicit images of themselves in far away unknown places. All the security in the world will not stop one man who wants to show his buddies whats being stored on the computers he's administering.

From talking to some of my friends at work... some have absolutely no idea AT ALL about privacy issues and what happens when you store data online. Its not something they have thought about, ever tried to comprehend or have any interest in knowing. For them, the phone works and does cool things end of story. I suppose this is a lesson for all that didn't know prior.

Photos??? Where can I get some?  (Aww, come on guys/girls, just trying to lighten the mood.)

"Return to the core"   I tend to agree,  reminds me of the marine who was dismissed 'cuz he was rotten to the corps. Heheh.

So, sticking to my theme here:

Mooxe, you play any Gateway head-to-head?  I tried the first map, then I tried it as the Germans, (single battle) to my surprise the Germans initially are dug-in AND there are some wonderfully camouflaged bunkers they can lurk in. (Spoiler alert).

Ricky Gervis said it right, "Celebrities make it harder for hackers to get nude pics of you from the computer by not putting nude pics of yourself on your computer."

That it is a crime is beyond debate but it is one exascerbated by crass stupidity and vanity.  Seriously, are they so much celebs that they need their nude pictures on hand so they can access them at any time?  Fuck them, sure don't feel even slightly sorry for them.

Celebrities (and no doubt we have wondered why so many celebrities are caught shoplifting) it is because they have a publicity agent looking for opportunity. It's a case of bad publicity is better than no publicity.

The way I see it the celebs are outraged as the pics got released without their okay. They have this thing where as long as they are the ones releasing nude pictures of themselves through the movies then they are okay with that.

It is just publicity stunts. They are getting more and more complex as time goes on.  And they are usually fiction.

In this case, I wouldn't be surprised if they locate the hacker, try to apprehend him and it results in a police shootout, where the hacker and all his pets are killed with tasers. It is our new found dystopia, and this is simply our entertainment. This thread is proof. And it works, because the average IQ of Americans and CANADIANS is less than 90.

There are too many laws in the country. I saw a small focus group going ape on the would be hacker, while describing these women as woeful victims. Besides, the NSA had copies of all these photos before anyone knew they were hacked. So, they would have gone viral eventually.
