For me so far it is Battle of Berlin CC5 Mod. Just for it varied maps and larger than normal tank battles on the hardest setting.

Im not the best judge, but ill have a go because its a good thread idea.

Single player?
CC4 Vet Bob, CC5 Berlin. karealia to a slightly lesser degree. Dont know about CC2 or 3. Single players never great.

Reliability?
GSJ, Starlingrad, Utah.

Popularity?
(same as reliability.)

Game balance?
Probably GSJ then utah???

My personal favorites?
Okinawa, El Elamain, Stalingrad, Utah,Bloody Omaha, karealia,
..I dont know. They are all very good. Theirs no point in me trying to pick favorites because they are all so cool!

I want to try Meuse crossing TLD. Battle of Fallujah COI. A Shau Valley GTC.  Vetbob (for WAR) and Battle of Surabaya 2player..

I have to agree with southern_land with the Winter War mod for CC5, or the Khalkin-Gol mod for CC5 as well, even though it hasn't been updated. Winter War is excellent because the Russians actually attack. Plus, the 1st mission of the GC is great.

Speaking of which, has Khalkin-Gol been updated or abandoned?

I'll have to go with any of TT's vetbob's, CC5 was nice (Nomada was in on that) with the Forcepool making it better IMO.

Don't forget Pzjager's Stalingrad: Der Kessell either. One of the toughest, yet fair mods ever made as a single player

MMCC3 is the most fun I've had with close Combat... followed by 10 player CCMT

It's a shame that it was abandoned. Sorry to ask, but why? I thought it was going to be a great mod.

schreken, what is MMCC3?

Khalkin-Gol?

Well, he had nothing to do with Close Combat for about 5 or 6 years. It was never finished.

A small version was released. It only had 7 maps. I think some maps were brand new for the mod, and some were CC3 modder made maps
. It featured a smaller GC map. The first map HAD a problem with the houses. The roofs did not disappear when troops went inside. .

This is not a problem for me because it didn't effect gameplay at all, and its not hard to imagine troops on top of a house. Especially if it had a concrete deck style of roof protection.

I loved the mod!I loved how the Soviets and mongols started out with a 2 map wide front. They are forced to fight the Japanese and Manchuria's through open ground.
It then progresses into a WW1 style of battlefield and rocky corridor style maps.
I think its very realistic considering the early time period.

I think the small GC is appropriate considering the nature of the battle. I've played it twice multiplayer. And it was awesome.

Added. I see Uberdave is posting. He made the mod. COOL

Hi Anthony, rodmorg.

I never really abandoned CC5 Khalkin-Gol. I just never finished it. As most of you know, making a full-scale mod is a very time-consuming process. I spent a year alone just researching the conflict, the leaders, the equipment, TOEs, etc. After several years of hard work I released a rough draft (v0.9, here on this site) to get feedback.

Unfortunately I got very little constructive feedback about it, other than the sound was good and the Japs were too tough on defense. I lost interest in CC soon thereafter. I'm back now. Played through all three of the 'new' releases (TLD, WAR, and LSA). I think TLD is the best for my future mod projects. I am considering completing the KG mod with limited maps and/or a small strat map (perhaps ala Tarawa, except more refined). I'm not a map-maker; always been more of a sound and data editor. Also have some other ideas, like porting Winter War or Stalingrad to TLD. Or that damn 'Liberation of the Phillipines' mod I always wanted to do.  Smile
