#1: New mod - Battle for Tunisia Author: Dfox PostPosted: Tue Jan 06, 2015 2:24 pm
    —
Hi all,

I think it’s time to announce my new mod for CC5-TLD – Battle for Tunisia. It represents the campaign in northern part of Tunisia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunisia_Campaign ) from November 1942 to May 1943 after British-American invasion of French North Africa ( Operation Torch ). The main idea of the mod is strategic meeting engagement. In the beginning of Grand Campaign ( see the picture ) nobody controls the whole map, there is no front line, both sides have only 3 battlegroups and so on. Allies are US, UK and French; Axis – Germans and Italians.

Current status of the project:

Music, sounds and intro video – 100%
Maps – 100%
Graphics:
Guns, soldiers, wrecks, planes and 3D vehicles – 100%
GameGadg, ScrnGadg.gdg and CCImages – 80%
Battles, operations and campaigns – 100%
All data files ( names, force pools, weapons e.t.c. ) – 90%

I plan to release the mod this quarter.

Regards,

All maps are new, but not all are completely new  Mr. Green Some are remakes of CC5, RtB and other mods maps.

What a pleasant unexpected surprise!   Razz

Glad to hear that it is for TLD (which means it will also run on WAR) as it is my opinion it is more stable than CC5 and has some additional features. With new mods and hopefully more conversions of old CC5 mods coming new CC players will find it easier to buy/find the game to purchase and we all will have a great variety of play for years to come....

Only for TLD.

No. As I know neither "Deutsch-Arabische Lehrabteilung" nor KODAT units participated in battles in northern Tunisia.

Well, they were deployed in Tunis... nothing critical, is only a "bonus" unit.

Ummm you are using somekind of alternative vehicle icons to simulate 3D and not using shadows???  looks interesting specially help to notice better terrain elevations.

The middle image shows a somevente 47mm with a cover for combat camera no?

Great job  Wink

Manoi wrote (View Post):

Correct, in 3D. About shadows...
1) I’m not very good in 3D graphics and it’s very difficult for me to make new realistic shadows for vehicles. Old shadows with new vehicles look ugly.
2) I’m not very good in mapmaking too  Mr. Green  and I used some “old” maps ( or part of them ), but turned them. So the shadows direction on my maps is not always to the South-East.
3) Don’t like “shadows system” in Close Combat because it’s not realistic. For example, the vehicle in the shade of a building still casts shadow on the ground…

More realistic shadows should be a benefit from the new 3D Close Combat but lets wait and see if that turns out be true or not....

I would recommend to have vehicle shadows regardless, because they help to give them a more "on the ground" feeling. Otherwise, without shadows they seem to be floating in air.

Agree with you, but "floating in air" feeling disappears after some hours of playing mod  Cool

Hi all !

Need your help.

1) I can't find in internet and in my books the pictures of the following commanders:

UK
Brigadier R B R Colvin, 24th Guards Brigade Commander, 1st Infantry div
Brigadier R C J Chichester-Constable, 139th Infantry Brigade Commander, 46th Infantry div
Brigadier F A V Copland-Griffith, 1st Guards Brigade Brigade Commander, 78th Infantry div
Brigadier A L Kent-Lemon, 36th Infantry Brigade Commander, 78th Infantry div

US

Colonel Brown, 39th Regimental Combat Team Commander, 9th Infantry div
Colonel de Rohan, 60th Regimental Combat Team Commander, 9th Infantry div
Colonel Randle, 47th Regimental Combat Team Commander, 9th Infantry div
Colonel Butler, 168th Regimental Combat Team Commander, 34th Infantry div

FR
Colonel Le Bleme, 3e Regiment de Tirailleurs algeriens Commander

GE
Oberst Irkens, Panzer-Regiment 8 Commander, 15. Panzer Division
Oberstlt. Eder, Grenadier-Regiment 755 Commander, 334. Infanterie-Division
Hptm. Brandenburg, Aufklarungs-Abteilung Commander, Division “Hermann Goring”
Oberst Ballerstedt, Panzergrenadier-Regiment 160 Commander, Division von Manteuffel
Oberstlt. Vonberg, Afrika-Schutzen-Regiment 962 Commander, Division von Manteuffel

Maybe somebody can provide me with them...

2) Don’t know who was the commander of  Panzergrenadier-Regiment 115 ( 15. Panzer Division ) in Tunisia in April-May 1943. And need his picture too.

I have done a quick research for allies photos and I don't have found nothing (only a small correction: Copland-Griffiths).
If nobody will be able to help you, maybe will be better "to rise one grade" if you want to use commanders photos, or let these names without photos.

I would actually prefer to see names of the commanders. If you can't get photo, it could be ok for me to see a generic photo of a commander from a zoomed out perspective photo. (e.g. while he is giving orders to the troops).

What kind of games do you like play,Archeage or Runescape ,you can buy anything to play if you click this ?www.rsgpfast.com or FIFA 15 Coins and www.fifacoins2u.com

Regards,

Thanks Dfox, not many TLD mods available...looking forward to this.  Any chance you can make the maps about 25% smaller so won't have to wait forever for vehicle movement, etc?  Great job on the vehicles.

Not true for Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 756. It was a new formation ( November 1942 ) and I found the following: "Die alten Waffen und Kraftfahrzeuge wurden abgegeben und wir erhielten dafuer neue Waffen und nagelneue Kfz. So wurde die Division ( 334 ) damals als eine der ersten Divisionen mit dem neuen MG 42 ausgeruestet". Source - "Mit dem Geb.jaeg.Reg. 756 in Afrika ( Tunesien ) von Gregor Seidenschwarz. Auszug aus, die Gebirgstruppe, Zeitschrift des Kameradenkreises der Gebirgstruppe".

In accordance with K.St.N.132d ( 1.11.1941 ) there was a Panzerabwehrbüchsentrupp ( 10 men ) in Gebirgsjägerkompanie: 3 2-man Panzerbüchse teams, 3 bearers with horses and Truppführer. So Pz.B Truppfuhrer = Panzerbüchse team+Truppführer.

Checked again, but still not agree with you  Cool  I think that totally new formations or their parts  ( entire battalion or company ) could receive MG42 without MG34. If it's not true, please provide any documentary proof.

No, only one 2-man Panzerbüchse team with Truppführer. And 2 teams without Truppführer.

This mod looks really cool. As if it was a finely tuned sequel or expansion of CC.
I love the art design of the teams. Tunisia is a fantastic setting for a mod.
Love the stat map.

I think it would be fun to play American troops in this.  Is Patton commanding a unit?
Sorry if that's been answered.

Would love to see a BG Smile

Will there be a way to use this new mod from Dfox with CC5?

I have installed all mods as "stand alone" folders using a manual install method... as HD space is really not an issue.

Dfox, may I suggest that you list the light German MGs as such:  Gb le.MG42 Trupp  instead of Gb lMG42 Trupp

Hi,

The problem is that the maximum length of unit name is 19 characters. It's ok for "Gb le.MG42 Trupp", but not for "Pionier le.MG42 Trupp" ( 21 characters ). So "lMG42" is the standard abbreviation for different units in the mod.

By the way, the correct abbreviation is "le.M.G.42"  Surprised

I am amazed at the consistency of your graphics. Really well done and good progress.

Would it be possible to see some action screens as well?

I can see you have quite large HMG teams with Hotchkiss - Can they position their machinegun in buildings without problems ? - I believe this has been the a problem with large MG-teams and the reason they are almost always 3-man teams. - Or have you found a way around this?

Hi Dfox,

Very good job with the 92° Basilicata Regiment and I’m curious to see the final global result: an Afrika mod on a re-release it’s something that we all need.
Which difference there is between “Fucilieri a” and “Fucilieri b”? Can I suggest to delete “a” and “b” and to put between parenthesis the main difference (like a weapon for example)? If not, to delete “a” and “b” anyway?

I have two questions about the mod:
- How many maps there are in stratmap?
- I have seen some Bgs pictures and their forcepools seem almost empty: it’s a precise choice or you will work on them later?

And a request:
I don’t know if also this African battlefield, like the other two for CC5, was historically full of mines: even if it’s in this way, please, delete many of the mines and/or create large corridors/passages in the minefields if they cover a map from one side to another one: big minefields are a huge problem for the IA.

Hi Drizzt,

1) The difference between “Fucilieri a” and “Fucilieri b” is that “Fucilieri a” is a 7 soldiers team ( all with rifles ) and “Fucilieri b” - 6 soldiers ( 5 rifles and 1 smg ). “A” and “b” are to avoid the confusion.
2) How many maps there are in stratmap? - 44
3) I have seen some Bgs pictures and their forcepools seem almost empty: it’s a precise choice or you will work on them later? - Yes, it was a perceived choice, but I think that forcepools will be changed for better balance and playability.
4) About minefields. Thanks for advice. They will be changed for "human vs. AI" version of the mod.

Thanks for the reply and ok for all.
Of course you have written "a" and "b" to distinguish better them (it was clear for me), I just suggest you to follow one of my two advices (delete "a" and "b"; or delete only "a" and write (smg name) in "Fucilieri b"). You can distinguish them anyway in the WorkBook using the third column in teams.
