Perhaps Mr. Blatter personally may not be corrupt but he is responsible for his vice-president Mr. Valcke who has now been linked to an alledged 10 milion dollar bribe  link. Blatter has worked at Fifa for 40 years of which the last 17 years as the president. If he was not aware of bribery and corruption among his associates or board members he is either deaf-blind or completely incompetent. As neither is the case he stands as much chance of being indicted as his fellow Fifa officials.
I believe that one of the reasons Blatter managed to be re-elected several times was his ability to gain the support of the football associations of the lesser developed football countries, in Asia, the Pacific and Africa. In those parts of the world he is regarded as a great benefactor of their footballing aspirations. This may not involve direct bribery but rather financial funding that the poorer countries badly need in order to construct and maintain football facilities.
More on Fifa practice can be read in the book "Fifa Maffia" by German author Thomas Kistner Fifa Maffia It is just a giant money-making machine.

The Netherlands and Belgium made a joint bid on the World Cup 2022 that Qatar won. I recall that one of the topics of discussion was that Fifa demanded all income to be tax free. In essence this would mean that The Netherlands would not directly financially benefit from organising the world cup. Apparently other nations found these demands less of problem. The fact that Qatar, a 2 million people desert nation won is beyond preposterous.

Good points.  It is the same old corruption story we've heard countless times.  "Oh I had no idea".  He knew what was taking place.  FIFA is a Culture of Corruption.   Yes it does boil down the $.  Qatar is nowhere even near close to starting the World Cup and already the level of death for construction works is unpresedented.  The media hardly bothers to mention it.  Qatar uses imported slave laborers from third world nations and works them to death.  If they were white workers dying, it would be all over the media.  But since they are brought over on a boat from some dirt poor nation, nobody even cares about them.  Same thing happened in Brazil.  And Blatter knew nothing of their deaths either he will say.

Nice to know Sod and Putin are more concerned about Blatter getting a fair trial and blaming America for a conspiracy...than the lives of 1000's of slave laborers worked to death.

Yes lets all believe the president of FIFA is innocent while all the dominoes fall around him. Come on Sod, is it just because it's an American led investigation? He's the president, and his organization is corrupted, do we not hold him responsible? Sure we haven't been presented the evidence yet, but with people inside FIFA commenting that this finally happened, his resignation, the other arrests... is there any doubt REALLY?

It has nothing to do with whoever is investigating but it does have everything to do evidence. The rest is paranoia but those who believe this has anything to do with countries. It's all about greed. Those charged should be stood down til found guilty and Blatter once that has happened or charged. He should only have gone once the first one found guilty ias it happened on his shift.

It wasn't that long ago the main stream media was backing the likes of Lance Armstrong against the few who tried to speak the truth.

Some examples of how to ensure your country is awarded a world cup tournament. German magazine Die Welt says that Germany won by promising extensive investments: Daimler invested in Hyundai , Volkswagen and Bayer AG invested in Thailand and South Korea, the German government temporarily lifted the arms embargo against Saudi Arabia 1 week before the election and delivered Panzerfausts. It shifted the voting balance in favour of Germany over South Africa. Die Welt article . Sorry, in German only but I gave you the synopsis.
Is this surprising? No of course not and it is probably all perfectly legal. It is just how it works. This is how you win business deals. In case you didnot know: the world cup is about money and much less about the sport. Sometimes it can be worth your money because I must admit since 2006 I like the Germans a lot better.

Slightly on another topic but relevant. New Zealand's bid for a seat on the UN Security Council recently. The NZ Govt actively enticed member countries to vote New Zealand with offers of free trips around NZ.

Up to 20 foreign diplomats have been flown to Queenstown for a week of fun, with sightseeing, shopping and even the Shotover Jet being used to try and secure their country's vote. The Kiwi taxpayer is picking up the tab.

That too must be a form of corruption.

Thats sick. New Zealand should have nothing to do with the security counsel. What a childish idealistic pursuit.
