Yes, I think I will be doing the same. Also with it being based on a true story they always seem to be that much more better for it storywise. Also with a pretty cast usual signals a good movie - Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Gleeson, Fletcher etc.

Star Wars maybe will have the biggest revenues in the history of any movie. Even after Jurassic World made $ 1 Billion in sales earlier this year. Been a long time since epic WW2 movie was made. Hollywood usually screws up with cookie cutter CGI or out of scale models. Saving Private Ryan was the only top tier WW2 movie made in recent memory.

Yes, a new WW2 block buster would be nice. What period in WW2, as most major periods have been covered. Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings repute was meant to be making a remake of the Dam Busters ( military aircraft being a passion of his ). Nothing has been said about that for sometime but it went past the drawing board.

The Last Kingdom - Based on the Historical fiction novels of Bernard Cornwell's. This is a TV series with very high IMDB rating 8.7/10. Set in 9th Century England during the Anglo Saxon period where conflict against the Danes and themselves was common place.

There is still abit of hinting at the nasty Colonials. Has some good old Kiwi actors and does look a new movie after being revamped. Just the ending is some classic PC rubbish.

I guess their landings weren't anywhere as dramatic as the US landings. The Longest Day covers some, for an old movie. It has been colourised and remastered.

Most movies are more entertainment than historically accurate. Ben Affleck pretty much said as much after making Argo - artisitc license and all. They fudge a few details to make the stories flow more evenly, more interesting etc.

Jackson is still meant to be doing a new Dam Busters. He had to shelve the idea as he took over the last Hobbit. The Revenant is very good.

Revenant is not really a "War" movie, with the exception of the opening scene as intense as it was, it's really more of a copy-cat of The Edge with Anthony Hopkins from 20 years ago. More about survival in the wilderness and revenge. It was a strange movie and the ending so vague. Some scenes were extremely similar to parts of Gladiator and Star Wars II...like the editors couldn't help themselves to "borrow" ideas from other films. Kind of too obvious.

You're getting a bit too picky dj. Of the thousands of movies and books out there we can make similarities between many of them. The Edge? Why stop there, ever seen The Grey? Too obvious, I think not. Having just watched Gladiator Friday, other than Crowe's imagination/flashbacks scenes I can't really see what else is similar. People die with arrows? As for Attack of the Clones, no idea!

Yea I'm a perfectionist I know...and die-hard movie buff and die-hard history buff. We are never going to get a movie that we all want. That 's what documentaries are for. Unless Shane has some connections? It was an ok movie. Empire Strikes Back, when Luke had to gut that animal to stay alive... Re: Gladiator, the ending is what I meant, those flashbacks.

Totally agree - it's not a war movie. It is a conflict movie is it not, as most westerns are. It is only based only the truth as in reality Glass never had his son with him during this incident etc. Artistic License and all. Same with Argo, American Sniper etc - entertainment not necessarily accurate.

This year Finland will be 100 years old, the centennial celebrations will be pretty big. As a part of them, there will be a new version filmed of the famous war novel "The Unknown Soldier" by Väinö Linna. There has already been two previous versions of the book filmed, I prefer the first version from 1955 I think. Second version was filmed in 1985. They always show one version, usually the first one, on Finnish independence day 6th of December.

The story of the book and the movies is about a Finnish rifle company in the Continuation War. There was a 'uncensored' version of the book released some time ago with 'traitorous' lines left in that were said by some of the characters. Remains to be seen if this new movie will keep those in.

Oh yea, sorry for the typo, I meant late 2017. Finnish independence day is December 6th so around that time I guess.

I have to say though, some of the actors seen in that teaser trailer are well known from being tv-actors in pretty silly game shows etc. That doesn't help in making the new version any more believable.
