Why I have changed my decision to not release this porting mod?
Two years ago, I have tried to contact PJ about this matter, but he never reply me: I have interpreted his silence as a denial and, in some posts here at CCS, I have “defended” my decision to not release them in respect to PJ point of view. I was wrong: some months later I have realized that my old mail provider, in some periods, it was “lack of communication” about mails never received by recipient. Moreover, last year (recently) I have tried to contact PJ again (more than one time) and my mails are come back with a message that it says his e-mail address doesn’t exist (no more). He seems vanished from years also from mod db site, the place he had used for his mods after leaving CC Community.
In another words, it's impossible for me to contact him and, considering also the fact that CC5 Der Kessel v 1.2 it’s disposable from many years and that, after all, they are just mods of a mod, I have decided to release them with the following thought in mind: at this point, I really feel it’s right to do it for the CC community (and my work on Der Kessel mod has been done as an homage to the great PJ work).

Thank-You very much for the WAR download of this Mod.

I was one who most Crucified you when you mentioned it was done but unavailable.

I should therefore be the one to first thank you for it.

And to PJager the original creator on Der Kessel

Thank you so much again!

Thank you Drizzt!!!

TLD/WAR may or may not be what everyone wanted from a CC release but they are fairly compatible with CC5 mods (after some work) and do offer some improvements in features/stability.... Still poking Matrix though as they both need one more patch...

Anyway that aside when all the CC5 mods get ported over that will be end of the original Atomic CC games on my computer....

Thank you again PJager!!!

Drizzt, do you mind if I post on the Matrix TLD forum pointing here about the conversion/release of the mod?

I'm not interested really in supporting Matrix but getting the word out to TLD or possible TLD buyers about the mods available for it....

Also great job on the enhancements and fixes you did too!!!

Changes and improvements (made by me):
- Corrected minor issues in Data.
- Added 2 battlegroups (Italian retreating Bgs).
- forcepools doubled and selective reinforcements implemented.
- Reworked artillery, mortar and air support reworked (now germans have the artillery support).
- Added various uniform patches.
- Added Italian voices.
- Added Romanian and Italian medals.
- Reworked Bgs patches.
- Corrected minor things in stratmap (like missing graphic arrows).
- Added many battles.
- Campaigns and ops (when necessary) reworked to take advantage of some TLD new features about supply depots.
- Entry victory locations adjusted for TLD and some victory locations corrected.
- Reworked/corrected Sirki roof map file.
- Reworked starting 15 teams of all Bgs.
- Reworked some bridges in maps to allow tanks crossing.
- Corrected one map.
- Corrected BA-64 shadow.
- Corrected kotluban map .bgm, .ovm and .mmm files.
- Corrected minor issues in all roof map files.
- Added maps red ring in minimap.
- Changed/added some other issues (graphic, sounds etc.) to run better in TLD and/or to take advantage of all TLD features.
- Added “Extras” folder: it contains some useful information.

Enjoy!

Hi Tejszd,

I modding TLD because I have the (personal) feeling it’s the best re-release to modding and to play (options available; IA behavior; forcepools structure). I also like the original TLD game (I have made a version of it with 8 days to play instead of 4 in Grand Campaign). Modding WAR it’s just a consequence to the fact that, with the last patch, WAR it’s almost identical to TLD, so it requires few work and I do it only to make happy persons that own WAR but not TLD.
The reinforcement bug in TLD/WAR surely it’s annoying, but I avoid it creating fixed forcepools (all my mods have fixed forcepools).
A porting work of a mod, in my opinion, it doesn’t mean just some work to do, but a lot of work to do. Moreover, as you have reported in your second post, I try always to improve the mods I porting to TLD/WAR (it means more work to do).
My only regret for Der Kessel (and Kharkov) it’s the fact it doesn’t exist a Romanian voice file.

Feel free to do it (and if you do it, please mention also WAR version).

Hi salexe,

I have already read that thread, but there is nothing there (just hypothesis about where to find Romanian voices).
Maybe I have combat mission somewhere in the vault and it’s highly probable that some tools have been created for this old game (tools to extract the files, if it's necessary to do it).
To cut/join/convert audio files it’s not a problem for me (and I know how to do this kind of work for CC). The main problem is that I don’t understand nothing about Romanian language so it’s impossible for me to do this work.

Drizzt, sorry didn't mean to down play the amount of effort converting a mod from CC5 to War/TLD as I do know it is a lot of work especially when you start changing/fixing things! My favorite CC re-release is LSA  but play TLD more because of the variety of mods for it since they are much easier to convert to WAR/TLD than LSA....

For Romanian voices I download the Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin demo but they only included German and Russian voices, probably to reduce the size, but on the positive they were individual numbered .wav files.

Then I found a website that that explains what the numbered files contain;

Combat Mission:
3000's = German
4000's = Finnish
5000's = Hungarian
6000's = Italian
7000's = Romanian
8000's = Russian
9000's = Polish

Including an approximate translation for each individual file (I would hope each language would be saying the same thing but wouldn't know if that is right or wrong honestly);

00030000 - Ziel ausgemacht, Feuer! Target sighted, fire!
00030001 - Schütze, Feindziel, Angriff! Soldier, enemy target, attack!
00030010 - Achtung Pak, Richtschütze Feuer! Attention AT gun (crew), gunner open fire!
00030200 - Schütze, Feindgruppen, Feuer! Soldier, enemy infantry groups, fire!
00030201 - Neues Ziel, feindliche Infanterie, Feuer! New target, enemy infantry, fire!
00030300 - Lade Panzerbrechend, feuer frei! Load AP, open fire!
etc.

Now we just need to find someone with a the full version....

I did try downloading a Romanian mod for Red Orchestra but the voice files are combined in a single file and you need to install Red Orchestra and its SDK to be able to export/import individual files.

Thank you very much for doing the conversion and all extra work and improvements on Der Kessel.
I belive this mod is THE hardest of the CC5 mods to play vs the AI - and many people enjoy that.
Very nice tribute to the original creator too - Glad your final decision was to release the TLD/WAR version.

Ok, Tejzd, good findings.
I might be able to help as I own both games. I have zipped the Romanian voices from the game. Who wants them ?

Hey Guys (ScnelleMeyer and Tejszd),

I have found Combat Mission 2 and installed it. They are already .wav files so the work should be enough fast.
It's weird that in all these years nobody has thought to Combat Mission earlier.

Tejszd: I can orient myself confronting/listening the other combat mission languages, but if you give me the link of the site with translations it's better.
EDIT: the files are different in number between the various languages: this fact means that it's impossible to confronte them: I need a translation from the site you mentioned, or a romanian user that takes the audio files (247) and writes in a .txt file the translation in english (like in the example you have reported). 247 file can seem many, but for a native language it's a work of one/two hours.

ScnelleMeyer: many thanks for you offer to help! Considering that I have the audio files, I prefer to do this work on my own.

They are divided by number series

Yes, I have checked my native language (Italian) and I confirm: they are structured in groups, so in every group there is the same order "spoken" in different ways. This fact means that the different number of audio files between languages it's irrelevant.

Thanks ScnelleMeyer! I can work on them now (hoping I will be able to cover all close combat orders).

Hi ScnelleMeyer,

I have already corrected and completed your list, now I see you have done the same: excellent.

About the work on sounds, I'm at a very advanced stage: the main problem (as I imagine) it’s that not all the sounds have the right correspondence between Combat Mission and CC.
The work will result approximately in this way (in CC they are exactly 100 audio files):
about 50: excellent work.
about 30: not exactly the same meaning, but something a bit generic more than acceptable.
about 20: nothing of similar to use. I could use something of very generic to hide the real sense (but it will not be a good work).
More details when the work will be finished.
(This work has forced me to learn some Romanian words, so I'm more than reasonably sure about the final result).

Hello:

A Der Kessel mod with romanian voices! I'm playing COI Royal Romanians mod so I'm interested in the theme. The audio files would work with COI RR?

to Tejszd. You used this mod for reference for the order of the romanian medals? I suspect that it's wrong.
I guess that the correct order of precedente is (from highest to lowest):
Ordinul „Mihai Viteazul”
Ordinul „Steaua României”
Ordinul „Coroana României”
Medalia „Virtutea Militar?”

I'm not 100% sure because I don't know if the grade or class of the order of medal affect the precedence.

A good site for info about romanian army in ww2 is http://www.worldwar2.ro/

I found this interesting link here: http://www.cybergate-corp.ch/Pictures/RO_Army_Branches_1934_1941_small.pdf

COI RR is perfect if you want infantry vs infantry battles! Yesterday Vuletescu captured 16 russians!!!

I'm not romanian, I dont'n speak romanian, my interest about Romania in ww2 is because the RR mod.

Bye

Do you also think that for some reason in this mod artillery shells are ridiculously much more deadlier to troops in buildings compared to those lying out on the snow?

It was like that in the original SDK, and also seems to be the case in the remake. Is this an intentional thing, or could it perhaps be a bug?

I don’t play COI from a long time, but I’m reasonably sure it can be used with COI without problems just changing/adapting the file name (but in case it must be reworked, I will not be the person that will do it for COI).

Not a bug, PJ choice, but it has been already reworked by me (less power about artillery) for the TLD/WAR version so it will remain in this way.

Here the final result about Romanian voices file work: only 20 audio files out of 101 are still not translated. I’m going to list them with some proposals and I accept advices about where to find the remaining.

0034: “all our tanks have been destroyed”. As extreme choice, I can only use something  generic like “It burns brightly” (about a tank hit). So, when player last tank will be destroyed, a player will listen “it burns!” and, as intensifying , “It burns brightly” (instead of “all our tanks have been destroyed”).

0057: “target out of range”: a generic "I can't" could be used.

0062, 0063, 0065, 0066: “We’re bogged down/stuck; we have broken a wheel/ the truck”. Combat mission has some .wav files for personal weapons jammed/stuck, but nothing for vehicles. As extreme choice, I can use a pair of generic .wav files that mean “I can’t” (already used as substitute of “no clear path”) and “it’s no longer possible”.

0070, 0071: “team clear; team withdrawn”. I’m not sure if they have the same meaning (“team clear” sounds really weird in my language if translated literally; maybe it refers to Company Level Evacuation and Recovery Team?). If yes, I can only use one of the “retreat!” . wav files (correctly already used for the CC retreat .wav files).

0074, 0075: “team lost; team down”. As desperate choice, I could use one the soldier in panic .wav files or one of the soldier hit .wav files.

0081: “enemy offers cease fire”. With a bit of fantasy, I could use "weapon down, hands up!" (says a Romanian soldier to the enemy soldier with the white flag)

0082, 0083, 0084, 0085, 0086, 0087: they are first names of the soldiers, screamed when a soldier has been hit. I can reasonably use Combat Mission soldier hit .wav files series: the only problem is that I have already use them for CC soldier hit .wav files series (I’ve been hit!” etc.) and for CC officials hit series (Sergeant! etc.). They are in this list just for repetitive reasons.

0089, 0093: “our engine is frozen; we’re out of gas”. Nothing to propose really. Maybe again “it’s no longer possible” as desperate choice.

0092 “sir the enemy has withdrawn his offer of peace”. I could use "forward soldiers, forward".

Drizzt

EDIT: Work completed.

But what is the logic? The building collapses on top of the soldiers and they die because of it?

I really think being out in the open when artillery is coming down on you is a much worse idea than hiding in a building. What do you guys think about it?

Hi guys,

This is the first version of Romanian voices file (FRVox.sfx) and it’s complete. It can be used with both Kharkov and Der Kessel mods for TLD/WAR (in Data I have used the same nation slot for both mods). You must only put this file in these mods (Kharkov and Der Kessel) LOCALFX folder and rewrite the old file with this one. Let me know what you think about it (especially Romanian users if any).
In future, I will include this sound file in the new autoinstaller of the official download version of both mods.

Here the link:

EDIT: obsolete. Download the definitive version of the mod.

Hi Tripwire,

I don’t have CC5 installed anymore, but the files for voices in CC5 are only three: I suggest to you to experiment.
First of all, copy and paste the LocalFX folder in a safe place.
I think you know there is the option to switch german language in the game from German to English, right? Considering the audio files name, my hypothesis it’s the following:
ERusVox: Allied language (Russian or English or American: it depends from the mod).
EgerVox: “E” it’s for “English”, so English language for germans. I think this is the file to change.
ggerVox: first “g” it’s for “German” language.
If it doesn’t’ work in this way, delete the LocalFx folder and copy and paste the original LocalFx folder (previously placed in safe place) in the mod folder. Than try to change ggerVox file.

When you will be in the game, you will switch between german languages as you want (depending on the BGs you will use: Romanian or German).

Drizzt, thank you for that information!

YES!  By re-naming the Romanian voices file to EGerVox.sfx for CC5 and selecting Germans Speak: English (which I hex edited to Romanian) .... I can hear Romanian spoken when playing as the Germans in:

for 2nd Kharkov - Krishtopovka and Petropalvoka
for der Kessel - Kletskaia, Raspopinskaia and Serafimovitch

Very cool !!!

The voice file also works fine with the COI Real Romanian mod

I have installed Red Orchestra 2 and I have discovered that Romanian mod is not compatible with RO 2. Moreover, Romanian mod it will never be upgraded for RO 2 because it seems it's more difficult to mod RO 2 than the first Red Orchestra.

So I have downloaded the mod and installed it anyway. It works, even without the original game (I mean it's possible to install it anyway, not to play it: I have thought to try to do these because it has already happened to me in past with some other mods).
Then I have found the .uax files I wanted and in the web a tool to extract them. Now I have 227 .wav infantry voices and 80 vehicles crew voices (but only one actor has recorded all of them). The main problem, again, it's to understand the meaning (there are Romanian users that can offers their help?). For sure some vehicle crew voices will be included in CC Vox file and more in general they all must be assessed for CC Vox file.

Tested the trial file tonight... It adds variety and makes things more authentic! Will have to give points to Matrix for making the changes to allow CC to support many more name and voice files....

Suggestions for the final release;
- change FR to RO in Nations.txt
- rename FRNames.txt to RONames.txt
- rename FRVox.sfx to ROVox.sfx
- review wav file volume in comparison to CC wav files

At the same time you could makes changes for the Italian names/voices;
- change CA to IT in Nations.txt
- rename CANames.txt to ITNames.txt
- rename CAVox.sfx to ITVox.sfx

I really think being out in the open when artillery is coming down on you is a much worse idea than hiding in a building. What do you guys think about it?

I have worked in a number of gas fractionation plants and oil refineries, and companies are spending a lot of money moving buildings out of blast zones to protect people. It's not the blast itself, its the pressure wave that causes flying debris that caused the most injuries. It has been proven that people in the open get knocked over but survive.
This was one incident which has been studied alot by engineers in the industry - http://www.csb.gov/bp-america-refinery-explosion/
Most of the casualties were inside buildings. Many people who were outside were uninjured!

I dont think the original modder intended it, but he modelled real life accurately!

Thanks Tejszd and ok for the suggestions, I will follow them.

For Romanian users: the translation work it's really easy for a native language: all the phrases of both Combat Mission 2 and Red Orchestra mod are very short (often only one or two words). It's just a numerical list (a .txt file) to do and it takes few seconds for every .wav file (about the remaining work, I will do it). If you want help, send me a PM. Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind, I will finish it on my own. Unfortunately they are very, very repetitive and only very few I'm not be able to understand (the most long, and anyway they are too long for CC). About the 227 infantry .wav files from Romanian mod, I have already checked 170 of them (and only something like 20 I don't have understood).
Speaking in general, not many good files for CC use, but here and there I have found something of very useful (for example: "Sniper!"). Probably the best thing it's the addition of some voices from radio.

You're welcome!

Re-name the Romanian voices file to GGerVox.sfx and drop it into the LocalFX folder on your Real Romanians Mod.  Make certain that you set the Germans Speak: German within Options.

Sequoia, make sure to make a backup or rename the original GGerVox.sfx file so you can go back....

Hi everyone,

This is the second version of Romanian voices file. It can be used with both Kharkov and Der Kessel mods for TLD/WAR (in Data I have used the same nation slot for both mods). You must only put this file in these mods (Kharkov and Der Kessel) LOCALFX folder and rewrite the old file with this one.

I must say that the bulk of the voices remains the one from CM2, integrated with some good voices from RO Romanian mod (especially voices from radio).
Probably this will be the final version of the file and I’m enough satisfied for the final result. Anyway for now it’s again a trial version. Testing made by some Romanian users (if any) it’s really welcomed.

Here the link:
EDIT: Obsolete. Download the definitive version of the mod.

Hi everyone,

Another update.

The definitive version will have night battles during all days of Grand Campaign except the first two (russian offensive starting in the morning).
Moreover, German air supply will be available from November 25th (it corresponds to the 7th day of battle in the game) to simulate the historical air bridge in the Kessel (of course, for coding reasons, it will be available only in the days with clear weather).

You can test these changes downloading the following file: you must only place it in Data/Base folder (the one inside Der_Kessel folder) rewriting the old file. It works with both TLD and WAR.
Here the link:
EDIT: obsolete. Download the definitive version of the mod.

P.S. I have discovered/realized that in the ops and campaigns the availability of (previously properly set) night battles it’s strictly related to the presence of the first day of the timeline inside them (I mean inside ops and campaigns). So, of course in Grand Campaign they are present, but about all other ops and campaigns, only the ones with inside the first timeline day will have them.
Speaking more in general, the Campaign.txt file (located in Data/Base) it contains many features that concerns only the Grand Campaign, and some features that (potentially/properly set) concerns all ops and campaigns. This fact can cause confusion.
In my opinion Devs should consider to create a Campaign.txt specifically for Grand Campaign and another one for all the campaigns and ops that are not a Grand Campaign. But how to distinguish them from a Grand Campaign? In my opinion, a Grand Campaign it’s a scenario that involves all the maps and all the days (previously set: some CC mods/games have a maximum number of days lesser than 25 and/or a maximum number of maps lesser than 64). Both these prerequisites must be satisfied to call a Scenario “Grand Campaign” (whereas the presence inside them of all Bgs is not a prerequisite).

Thanks again Drizzt....

There are a few quirks with some of the settings still, example;
- when surprise is on it only works on the 1st day 1st turn possible in the game even when the Grand Campaign starts later in the day. It really should be a setting like support or weather where it is saved with the campaign or operation and occurs on its 1st turn.
