I was walking the dog in a new park near me when I came across this. It looked so out of place I thought it was an abandoned truck cab or something. The plaque told the story though, the park used to be a tip!

Any one else have any random hardware on display near them? I know about the big ones - the Houffalize Panther etc, but any local ones?

In Borden where I work I wouldnt say its random hardware, just a lot of hardware on display. There are sea, air and land units and each unit has equipment from their past on display. Sea mines, aircraft, naval gun turrets, AT guns, logistic support vehicles... you name it. A large collection of German war trophies to.

Every legion has something on display too. Some have barrels of unknown calibre, sherman tanks are popular and artillery pieces to. Every town/city I have lived in and most I have traveled to have something.

Yes in my neck of the woods, the USS Iowa was recently made into a floating museum at the Los Angeles port.  Similar to the Mighty Mo in Hawaii where the Japanese signed their surrender on deck.  Also in San Pedro, a local park has defensive naval fortress guns on display and underground bunker has been made into museum.  They are in the process of dismantling the El Toro Marine base which was used by Marine aviators during WW2.  Small museum there too but no planes are displayed.  Unfortunately they are leveling many historic aviation building and replacing them with condo projects.

This sunday I will visit the German Tank Museum (Deutsches Panzer Museum) as they have their annual "driving day". Last year a serviceable Panther should have spread some mud, but had it´s historical gear troubles. Maybe this year it will move. Also last year I was lucky to talk to the staff and they let me into replica A7V, which was quite an experience, since everything was perfectly reconstructed form the drivers devices down to the gunners positions.
Have a look at the wiki page about the museum and let me know if anyone want some close up pics of certain war machines.  I´m invited as a reenactor but may have some time to take pics among the crowds.

Some WWII tanks from military parade during latest Navy day (30 Jul) in Severomorsk, Russia.

Sherman in back is from lend-lease supplies, salvaged from wreck of USS Thomas Donaldson (sinked by german sub in 1945 near Murmansk). Some shots from salvaging operation: http://structure.mil.ru/structure/forces/navy/media/photo/gallery.htm?id=30967@cmsPhotoGallery  . Video in action: https://youtu.be/8YaQkOKUiMw

"Stahl auf der Heide 2017", Tank Museum Munster, North Germany this September was the third annual event in which some of the museums runners are presented on a driving course, much like Tank Fest at Bovington, UK.

This year was a first for the painstaikingly restored PzKpfw I Ausf. A to have some turns along with a Panther and a PzKpfw IV. Not to forget some more modern vehicles like Leopard, T-62, BMP 1, Marder...

Enjoy the runners:

Hi all. I'm in LA airport just returning from 2 weeks in Cuba. I was in Havana on my own without Mrs Grunt. So I could visit some awesome historical sites without hearing her famous catch-phrase "Not another f*€#ing war site"

I'm on an android phone and the free wifi is dodgy so I'll throw a few up as teasers before I get home.

The sign says Fidel himself fired this gun and hit the destroyer Houston during the Bay of Pigs invasion! With a cigar in his mouth of course. Our man Vlad P has nothing on this guy.

Not just military hardare, also some VERY cool automobiles. (Calling these classics "cars" just doesn't feel right)

Looks like classic Canet 6' naval gun. Probably one of taken from admiral Cervera Spanish ships during Santiago de Cuba siege in Spanish–American War of 1898.

Good call. Here's a detail, you can still see the remains of the springs under neath. The small shroud may be an addition.

MiG-21 number 522. It is looking a bit shabby, they need to move these indoors to a hanger. Unlikely considering the state of their economy.
