Close Combat Series -> Modding Workshop

The people here have been so helpful with getting things to work on various Close Combat titles that I wanted to contribute something also.

I've been putting together a number of sound mods for various Close Combat base titles and mods, some have been released quietly (hope you've enjoyed them!). I ended up realising I was starting to get quite a collection of them and thought it would be better to make them available rather than just keep them to myself. Particularly if it sparks some curiosity about some of the adjusted mods set in less focused on theatres. That and I can justify the time spent and not cringe quite so much!  ::

The aim has been to provide variety and make use of - where available, authentic sounds. For each mod there are adjustments to the Weapons.txt files to provide individual sound references, for example different sounds for Bow/Coax/AA Machine-guns, with varying length of burst and the sounds matching those numbers. In some instances Towed AT Guns have the sound of the casing being ejected, notably in the Der Ost Front sound set. Explosion effects have been replaced with a mix of sounds from across the series, armour impacts and some ambient sounds have been replaced. Think of it as something of a surprise selection!

There are some instances where I haven't been able to find a usable example for a weapon; Suppressed Carl Gustav SMG/Lancaster SMG for example and have used near equivalents. For the most part though I've had a good amount of luck in finding the footage I needed.

AT Guns have for the most part been sourced from B0ris' Sound Mod for War Thunder and Historical gun sounds mod v.1.967 by Gnomefather for World of Tanks. Gradually I'm finding replacements for these that use demonstration recordings. Some however I just can't see being able to get - hence the replacements, unless someone happens to have a couple of AT Guns in their garden?  Smile

There are also some included Music.sfx files that should add a little more flavour to the games, either matching the location or time period.

For ease of use I've also included a Listings/Index document that shows the Weapon and Sound IDs, changes to rounds fired in bursts and any other supplementary information. Aside from being a huge help in the process of putting a sound mod together it allows you the player to also see what has changed so that if you wish you know what and where to look to restore an aspect. I can see this being an issue with rate of ammunition consumption or a sense of certain weapons having a little too much or too little power - case in point being the .30 cal machine-guns within Invasion Normandy. They fire a larger amount of ammunition and are devastating against infantry in terms of both suppression and kill effect.

Please note that for ease of use, speed and functions the data files and listings documents were made in Notepad ++. They should all open up in Notepad fine (using the .txt extension) but there's a chance their column formatting may not display properly. It is quite a handy tool to have though for editing text files so you might want to have a look at it in its own right.

As always, please do back up your files for easy replacement if you wish to go back to the sounds you were using.

Things are going to get loud...  Wink

Thanks Hicks! I tried the one for LSA and I liked it very much, most of the sounds have this distinct "being fired outside" sounding.

If you are still working on this, I would advice to tone down the bolt action sound on the Kar98k? I think it is ok in the enfield for example.

Hello there! I just checked back here on the off chance today and it's lovely to see that you're enjoying the mods.

I can tweak the bolt cycle sound on the Mauser a bit lower and post an updated link in a day or two. I really ought to update the links in general as I did a number of changes to the sound packs for Gold Juno Sword, Ost Front and Ardennes.

Less said about the headache of redoing the menu graphics for GJS as an experiment the better though  Laughing

I suggest placing this sound mod in the GTC Download section, because it is the version 1.2.

Now in the Download it's version 1.1.

It'll be worth going through anything that's uploaded in dedicated categories and replacing them as there's a lot to add/replace. From the original post I've got versions to upload for:

CC3: Afrika
CC3: Vietnam
CC5: Okinawa [played through both sides Grand Campaign with it]
CC5: Stalingrad
CC5: Karelia
CC5: Ardennes VetBob

I've just lowered the bolt volumes as previously asked for a few minutes ago. When there's a moment that my head isn't made of Swiss Cheese I'll see about tidying up files and uploading things.

Typically though it'll likely be the case moving forward that the most recent version will be on the mega.nz hosting as I'm an endless tinkerer with things.

Great sound mods.

It's too bad that Hicks never uploaded any of the others that he finished. If you are still around, please make them available.

Thanks
