Close Combat Series -> Modding Workshop

How about getting started with map making for Close Combat? - This guy makes a map for Men of war series of games in 1min/10mins/100mins and achieves respectable results. - The same thing could be done with Photoshop or Gimp layers in order to make a CC-map - there are some map templates floating around, and textures too:) - Why not give it a try? : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XsTjs0itSM

Looks to be quite a powerful one
would buy Men at War just for it  Laughing  Laughing
I am doing some CC3 maps
Nothing special Just cut and past from original CC3 maps
Will put on line some maps during the week end
I am not on the level of the mapmakers we already see here CCS
Will not give names because for sure I will forget some of them

That sounds excellent Corsair. So refreshing to see some new maps for this game. I am sure the quality is more than good enough - I am sure looking forward to seeing them.
The Men of war 2 is on a Steam sale right now actually: The base game can be had for around 4 Euros!
It should be possible to make CC maps with it - or the graphical -exterior part of the map at least.  I am thinking lots of screenshots from top down and then use Photomerge function of Photoshop or some other program that can stitch photos together automatically. Polishing, Interior graphics, elevation and elements coding would be left to do of course.

I would advise you to get the Steam version, jusy because of access to the massive amount of mods in the Steam Workshop. I would say get the Men of war assault squad 2. I must add that I havent really played the game... I bought on sale for the editor..

Using the render "minimap" function in the editor with smaller maps will output a .PNG of the map in Ortograhic view to the main MOWAS2 folder.
This is a complete top down image and with smaller maps its resolution is high enough to use in a CC map!
Ground textures might need to be touched up or replaced and trees need to be removed too ofc.

You can get an interior render by placing a single soldier inside the 1-story houses and check" show interiors". - Placing soldiers around the map will "light" up the whole map image.
You can also get a heightmap from the editor making heightcoding in 5CC easy.

Well SL, its a good mapeditor, but it is very time consuming to get a decent map out of it. Those skilled in Photoshop or Gimp will produce a decent CC map in a much shorter time I think.

Those maps are in various stage of progress but almost all coded.
Need to create the RFM files in 5CC
I tried to incorporate the trees out of 5CC but do not know how to make it
Enjoy

easiest way is to clone out the existing shadows and add your own with 5CC

Dont you have to create and add a bunch of tree shadows and make a library to make that work? Or is there something usable already in 5CC?

#20: Re: Inspiration for map making Author: corsairLocation: Orchies Northern France PostPosted: Tue Nov 05, 2019 8:53 am

In fact I am not talking about the tree shadows but the trees by themselves.
Is it possible to have the trees on the map by 5CC screenshot .......
On SL Winter War maps the trees were on the maps .......

#21: Re: Inspiration for map making Author: ScnelleMeyer PostPosted: Tue Nov 05, 2019 9:05 am

Yes, you can display the correct trees on the map in 5CC to make screenshot or ovm with trees.
Its under the "edit" menu. - to get the correct trees corresponding to the coding, the requirement is that that your elements file used with 5CC contains the sprite index numbers.
And in "layers" menu show trees need to be checked ofc.

Yes I found the way to get trees on BGM in targa format.
I just had to read carefully the options in export Menu of 5CC. Shocked
Will upload a map this evening from home  Laughing

And the last one for today
For those 2 last maps the idea was to modifiy exisiting winter maps in summer maps.
But it is not so easy when you cut and paste to follow the existing features of the original maps
then you get your inspiration which drives you somewhere else.
Those 2 last maps are not yet frozen I may still modify them a bit

Cheers

The maps look very good with the trees overlayed! - Izyum32 and Moscow1SE are my favourites so far. Interesting that you converted the winter map to summertime and also resurrected the burned houses:) - I think as it is now it will play very differently to its winter version, wich is a good thing.

This thread may look not in its place but .......
I will continue my work on CC3 maps and specially finish what I started but .....

Is there any body in the community playing Armoured Brigade.
During lunch break I spent some time on Matrix forums and this game has some similarity with CC :
bird view
Sprites
data base
multiple possibility for mods .....
all things we are familiar with

I will wait still a little bit but I may try a go and buy it ......

I had the same question. Schnellemeyer came to the rescue. I lost my HDD in the meantime but you should be able to find it here: SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Men of War Assault Squad 2
There you will find this shortcut: mowas_2_ed.exe

Hi Guys,

First of all I would like to thank you for all the positive feedback I got so far on my work.

There are a couple of things I did since my last E mail.
I have change the names of maps under contruction.
They will be named MINSK
I wanted to have a more Russian looking name but as we are limited to 8 letters or digits MINSK gives me the opportunity to make 999 maps ...... Rolling Eyes
I currently have 10 various maps under process in various stage of coding.
I will update you shortly when somes will be 100% coded

Cheers,

This is a map I have been working on converting from Call to Arms to Close Combat. - Call to arms has the same GEM 2 editor as the Men of war series of games.

Fine looking map Schnellemeyer!
Is the map editor suitable for WW2 era maps as well?

#41: Re: Inspiration for map making Author: ScnelleMeyer PostPosted: Thu Jul 30, 2020 2:24 pm

I would say so Pete. For example on this particular map I would have to delete a couple of satellite dishes and cars to make it perfect for a WW2 setting.

Will try to finalize them beginning september
Then I will need some help to upload them
