#1: CC4 on XP Author: jrg PostPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2005 4:24 pm

I’m having trouble getting CC4 to run in XP, I’ve tried it on a Win98 and a 2000 computer and it works fine. I got a new laptop and would like to use it.
When starting the game I get the “Internal error at address 0x473A89” and it closes. I’ve tried switching the compatibility manually and using the wizard to each different modes, but maybe I’m doing it wrong.
I downloaded the 15 MB CC4 patch, but when trying to run it was told that the “file cabinet was corrupt”.
I know there's some way to make this work, someting about directX?.
I ordered CC5 and I hope to better luck, but in the meantime would appreciate any help getting 4 to work.
Thanks

Be aware there are two patches for CC4. One for US and one for UK/International. I had the same problem as you running the patch from this site which i think is the US one but not sure.

Luckily I found the UK/International one that I had from an earlier install of CC4 and works fine now on mine.

Do you have a US version of the game?

PS I wouldn't worry about the same problem with CC5, its specific to CC4, I think.

I would use the the unofficial CC5 patch anyway as it works well and addresses some minor bugs.

I belive I'm using the US version of CC4, I bought it from someone on Amazon in the US. I don't understand why the patch wouldn't work.....

Besure your XP is all up to date with it's patch's.

I have XP and both games run fine,
I am not aware of two different patch's I belive the one patch does both games.

I would wipe the slate clean and try installing again, just besure to go in your HD and delete the main CCIV folder yourself, the uninstall wont do this and it tells you that. The error message you mention sounds like something didnt get installed correctly.

Then download the patch again from the CSO site

CC4 is working now! Thanks for the all help, the link to the patch downloaded and worked ok. Please note that there are two different cc4 patches, the one that is called “international” worked on my machine, the other wouldn’t. After I set the compatibility mode to Win 98Me it loaded.
Before all of this I deleted the game and folders and reinstalled making sure my Antivirus/anti hacker programs were disabled (they turn themselves on automatically when rebooting).
I’m looking forward to installing the modifications from this website and playing against you guys.
There is one thing, the mouse jumps around very fast when panning over maps, is there any adjustment that can be made for this?
Thanks again for the help!

I think their might be a fix on the whole mouse thing,

Look for VETBoB 1.13 and the 29 repainted maps, hands down without a doubt the best mod for not only CCIV but for playing against the AI.

GL and Have Fun

feel free to visit/post in the CCIV forum,it is the 'best'
