Day 8, Morning. St-Come Du Mont

My poor AB Battalion is cornered behind a small hedgerow in the Northern marshes. They lack ATGs and Infantry guns. They are up against good German infantry and light tanks, along with a wide assortment of flak cannons. I have no choice but to reinforce in order to hold on.

I choose 3 57mm ATGs to help me break out. Guess who is one of the gunner's assistants? Zabalaoui! So I figured I better keep him. This is good luck, I bet its some sorta hidden game feature where the Zab himself is some sorta super soldier who cant be stopped....

Poor guy...

What a poor soldier he was... Anyways, its the end of day 8 morning, heres the progress so far...

The Chateau....

My AB unit entered from the West in the wide open. The only cover was a
small hedge in the North shielding partially my men below. I knew it would
be a slug fest and Sickf1 was going to do his best to disband me. I started
out with all 3 75mm Howitzers below the hedge with the 57mm ATG and 2
Stuarts with a Command Team as support. In the West edge 3 81mm
mortars, 1 Comd Team and 1 Rifle team. Remaining 4 teams were to sneak
to the closest hedge in the East.

Game started out with a trench giving away the position of one of his guns
directly in front me on the hill. I select my mortars by pressing 1-V-Fire,
2-V-Fire and 3-V-Fire, number 4 was my 2 Stuarts and ATG, 5 was my
2 75mm Howitzers and 6 was my last Howitzer. They all fired and
dispatched the gun quickly. In the north 2 German guns were firing
down on me, the North Easternly most gun takes out 1 Howitzer.
German mortars take out the other 2 75's and kill 3 crew in the 57. 1
Stuart is immobilized. Sickf1 is running men through the fort since he
only owned half of it. I see them and start dropping mortars hoping to
get some kills since there were flammables preset. This was just the 1st
minute.

In the South he snuck some men into a windmill, had some of his
mortars, mg42s and a heavy ATG. My mortar barrage took care of the
ATG. The rest of the game I just played safe. I was on the verge of
being disbanded. Every now and then my men would be picked off.
Both my Stuarts fired continously untill the timer ran out. My mortars
started dropping smoke in front of the German guns that had partial LOS
around the 2-5 minute mark to help me survive. Last minute sick tried to
deal the final blow. His smoke popped at the South West corner of the
fort and I knew his men were coming. All it would take is a couple deaths
and I'd be gone. I had about 4 mortars left and dropped 'em, both my
Stuarts force fired into the smoke.

Game ended and I survived.

Here is the North section of my deploy.

Here's the South end...

That was the end of Day 9 Morning, heres the overall results and file.

Mooxe- I have been playing Utah Mod lately and loving it.
When do you think the best time to reinforce is? As soon as you can or until your battle group is almost out of units?

Good question....

A good rule of thumb is that when all your support teams, ie: mortars, ATGs, MGs, Comd Teams, Zooks etc. are severely depleted thats when you reinforce. If the situation of your BG was the opposite, ie: you are critically low on assault units, support units can generally fill the gap and you wouldnt need to reinforce yet if your playing a defensive role.

Ofcourse theres always expections to the rules... For instance if you have a BG going up against a strong enemy tank unit, youd want lots of zooks and ATGs. Reinforcing may be worthwhile.

Do you decide on how many and what reinforcements before the game?

Terrific lurking material, thanks mooxe :ok1 :ok2 .

After day 10 Afternoon heres the results. Heavy gains in all North sectors. Southern sectors faced heavy resistance and heavy casualties mostly due to poor starting locations and powerful German BGs present.

June 12th Afternoon Results.

Still cant breakout in the South East corner due to lack of armour postioned there and attack deployment square is always in the open. The AB unit in the far SE corner is just holding against the Germans. In the South West there is heavy fighting, Shermans vs Stugs. Many options exist in the North West for a breakout, but how far can I extend my lines? 2 Tank units have landed on Tare Green and Uncle Red for the morning of the 13th.
