2. RUN
3. Type: DXDIAG (press enter)
4. now click DISPLAY
5. Disable DIRECTDRAW ACCELERATION

This error only occurs on Nvidia graphics cards. ATI cards don't seem to encounter it. Tested this with all of my cards I have here at home.
Nvidia users can fix it (at least it didn't occur anymore) by installing the latest drivers 81.95 from nvidia.
This should get you rid of disabling DDraw every time you want to play a session of CC5.

the problem still occurs. I have battle of berlin installed over a clean CCV installation.
