Hey guys,

As most of you will know i started a mod about the fightings in south west of the netherlands about 2 years ago. i have made some progressions here is a small update.

Maps: the 12 maps concerning the Walcheren isle are finished. i have made some new updates to them concering railways, and roofs. aslo i resized the veere and vlissingen maps as they where far to large in my opinion.
Also i recieved some new aerials so i can start new maps. One of these is allready in progress (vlake bridge) this is the bridge over the canal of beveland one of the major german defense line after the canadians fully surrounded the german troops in the estuary. with help of dodam i'm making this map Smile as you could have seen in 1 of the previews. Also Norden, Jimrm and Peter give me great support in making of textures and designing new ones by myself, or aquiring a high realism setting.
I'm still looking for aerials of the belgian area around antwerp and the Zeeuws vlaanderen region.

Interface: I repainted the background image wich now contains pictures taken in the scheldt region. also i redid the bgroup unit pictures. also i invitire Norden to make a new stratmap for me as the current one is still temporary.

Data & Sound: After long doubts between my current data writer i chose to continue with the new type of cc5 data made by Dima wich should give a diffrent representation of warfare at that time. his knowledge of ammunintion effects vehicle armour etc is gigantic. and seen the fact we work toghether in more projects (OMG, Stalingrad) i'm sure his work will be astonnishing. In the summer periode of 2005 he also created a new set of sounds wich are more realistic and suited to the periode place and weather in this region at that time.

I can't really tell anything about ETA's so please dont ask us, its done when its done Smile

Cheers Buck

I am looking forward to this mod very much, it sounds like its going to be very good. I would make a small suggestion though.

Please dont follow the trend that was set by GJS and then replicated by Stalingrad: leave the fighting tactical AI intact from the original games. Recent mods have disabled or reduced the behaviour that made the game realistic, that is teams engaging on their own initiative when presented with a target in their fire arc while on defensive mode. I am not sure what they did to change this but it amounts to situations like tanks/infantry not firing at targets right in front of them in the open. The game was not designed to play like a RTS, you shouldnt be running around clicking on fire orders for everyone, you should be losing men and equipment because you didnt pay attention enough to give a fire order, you shouldnt be swept off the map because someone is faster with the mouse, so I urge you to avoid the same mistake that GJS and Stalingrad modders made.

Hey guys,

Another Small news update from my side. The Following has been done:

Maps:
All maps in the area of walcheren beveland and brabant are done except for Antwerp Collijnsplaat and Ossendrecht. Also some maps are on the list of being redone : Biervliet, Braakman, Putte, Hoofdplaat and 52nd (lowland) Div LZ

Textures:
Norden is working on textures as good and as hard as he can. for the months August and July is he on holidays so i'm not expecting results until september. to keep up with his work check out the thread: http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2614

Data:
Dima Has started working on the data. As far as i know he had done the weapons and vehicle file and has now started to work on the Teams and Force pools. He will update you guys in a later stage of progress.

Graphics:
In the last 3 days I have worked on a major part of the screengdg file mostly redoing the Unit pictures in the battlegroup screen and on the stratmap. but also commander pictures and bgroup names and map names. other then that i also set the time line for the game wich will be from 15oct - 8nov
Also there might be someone able to help me on Vehicle graphs as i'm unable to do that myself. This guy (popov)claims to work for ubisoft. But i havnt heard from him in a while so its keeping fingers crossed weather he will produce something or not.

I hope to have informed you well enough

Cheers Buck

Hey guys,

a bit of a new years update on the game progress of battle of the scheldt:

Data & Sounds:
Just before holidays did Dima finally send me a copy of his data for the scheldt mod. unfortunally some files (geteams) got mixed up. wich makes the game unuseable until het can get acces to the right files we need. so i'm only able to tell what i could see so far (allied bg's) wich look very nice an realistic. I hope we can start playing the game in the near future. Sounds is still the same only the weapons need to be linked up to the right sounds Wink

Maps:
I'm kind of bogged down in the map section. Norden hasnt been able to send me some new textures as he is very busy with his study. also i have some difficulties with finding the last remainder of aerials wich i'm looking for. as they are very expensive.

Graphics:
I have redone a lot of pictures. To start with the background i changed the 2nd draft from the background into the 3rd wich shows the player a side view of a vickers mmg platoon dug in behind a dike somewhere on the south side of the scheldt. also i changed a whole amount of pictures concerning the allies now using photo's taken in the scheldt region.

I hope to have informed u guys well enough

Cheers Buck

Hi BuckCompton,

Thanks for the updates. Were you able to salvage any of the previous attempts made at OMG for CCV? Or do you have to start this completely from stratch?

I thought there were at least 2 previous attempts at OMG for CCV and that those modders could share work with you to save time?

Hey Buck!

Thanks for the update on the Scheldt mod. Sounds very interesting. I am still blown away by the movie: "Riddle of the Sands".... and the German North Sea coastal scenery (even though that time period was WWI).

Thanks for all your efforts in making this mod a reality.

These are going to be some kick-ass mods. Given the person in charge (BC) you know they will be.

BTW Buck you need to give yourself more credit mate. I did very little to help you. A few tips and a few waves here and there but you're the one who took the time to do the maps and make the mods. Hats off to you mate. I can't wait until you can experience the pleasure of handing the mods over for everyone to use. Truly rewarding.

Hey guys,

a bit of an update on behalf of the maps and data.

Recently i found some 250 euro's free to buy some new aerials (Ossendrecht, Putte, Terneuzen, Hoofdplaat, Cadzand, Biervliet and an aerial from the road linking Phillipine and Biervliet) As you can see i got to work on it and finished 3 of these maps Very Happy. the others are still in progress or have to be started. Also i've recieved some new textures from Norden like new roofs etc i've started to put these in to the old maps with (imo) a very nice and realistic effect. Also Norden learned me a new trick on how to make nice and realistical trenches as u can see on maps like vlake phillipine and ossendrecht.

Concerning data dima send me a whole set of new data wich looks very good and i have played it against ai it works ok. i'm expecting dima to send me a new update so i can get further along with the game. also i have adapted the ingame graphs to the new maps and new teams.

Hope to have informed you enough

Cheers Buck

Hey guys,

I have been quite busy these last week updating stuf on this mod i will try to list some things i did here.

Maps:

I Updated te following maps: Bergen op Zoom, Hoogerheide, Woensdrech, Angus, Ossendrecht, Putte, Wildert, Wouwse Plantage, Rilland, Krabbendijke,Yerseke and Wemeldinge. Most of the changes are made on the roads, roofs and tree's. But also things like bushes and walls are replaced by new ones. I owe Norden great thanks to his devotion on making most of these graphs. Concidering his study takes a lot of time he has. He is also working on a large serie of bunkers for some atlantik wall maps i made for the isle of walcheren and Vlaanderen. Also i made some new maps and replaced some old ones. fe Baarland; i extended the combat area from the dike to the small village and made some minor german defense positions based on the farms in the landscape. also i remade the map of hoofdplaat based on a new aerial. there is also 1 new extra map being phillipine road this was the area in wich the canadians tried to lur german attention to instead of the braakman and eede maps.

Data:

Dima has been very productive these last months altough he is very irregular online. he made a final version of his data set for the allied teams still waiting for him to send me the new german teams. other than that i can't tell you guys very much. hope to be able to release a beta mod somewhere around the summer or autumn.

Cheers Buck

Buck, be sure to tune in to Ned2 tonight (20.55), because "Andere Tijden" has dug up footage from Canadian archives, showing the Canadian invasion of Holland, including the battle of the Scheldt.

The footage, shot by Canadian soldiers (The Canadian Film and Photo Unit), and consisting of mostly unpublished material, has been turned into a historic film, and premiered yesterday for Canadian veterans and their relatives.

If you can't watch it I'm gonna record it, and probably put it online for download if there's interest.

Hey Wittmann,

It is a very mixed selection of maps. Beaches, city's, towns and Stutzpunkte can't really tell of wich type the most are.

Concerning the tanks. there is an amount of funny churchills like crocodiles avre's and some flail tanks and achilleses for the allies and the germans have some 8 stug's or so not really much armour. This mod is more infantry based one.

I hope to be able to release a part of the mod somewhere around spring next year before i leave for afghanistan.

StuGs can be very dangerous!!! Smile I hope the experience will be good so that we can destroy some tanks Smile

What do you mean with a small part? A betademo to test?

When do you think is this mod final? Or will it finished before you leave for afghanistan? Smile

Hey Wittmann,

You can read about it on www.wikipedia.com Wink

With releasing a part i meant the same like gjs4.3 did own data and graphs etc but some added maps from other mods to fill up the holes. Because it is pretty expensive to buy aerials for all the maps i make Wink I dont think to be able to finish all of it before i leave to afghanistan Wink

wich army/branch do u serve in?

Will you be updating the textures of the rooftops as well? Seem a little basic.

I am really looking forward to this mod. New Maps, new units, and a whole new campaign.

Thanks - Kevin

Hey Stiener,

And others ofcourse. it has been a very tumultuous time for me and the mod... Norden started to deliver his textures en masse some 2-3 months ago enableing me to work on new dunery maps... and replace a lot of bunker work... you can see the results at the combat camera. I hope you guys like it what i have made so far it will take a bit longer to finish the maps as Norden is busy with his study and i'm preparing to leave for afghanistan. I cant give a defenitive eta on the mod. I hope to have something functional ready befor i leave to afghanistan but i cant promise anythings.

I reckon that the eta that Buck wants to give you is set before his departure to Afghanistan in April but not everything has been going according to plan. His HD crash a few months ago set him back further than he wanted people to know and another vital part of the mod is seriously delayed so that playtesting now is only marginally possible. I am hoping that it will be completely finished and playable before he is off to Uruzgan but I am not so sure Sad .
Anyway, i have played a couple of maps and they are pretty cool Smile

PS: About the numbers on the bunkers. It's a kind of copyright mark I guess. I believe that Norden does not want his textures to be used before the mod is released.

Hey Guys a bit of news from my side.

Concerning te Numbers on the bunkers... they have a double function.. besides the main reason pete states i also use it to point out wich bunker you're looking at.

Also Pete states that i had a HD crash this is correct i lost al my maps and data and photo's etc etc. Since the crash i worked double time to restore what i lost. i was able to restore most of the maps... But then last week i was checking out the asus laptop wich i gave to my brother... i had some major luck and found back ups from 2 years ago. wich will enable me to update some maps wich i wasnt able to do since the crash. Also that back up included some maps from the OMG mod...

Besides that i cant tell really anything besides that what pete told you guys...

Cheers Buck

Hi Buck,

a HDD crash is very bad! I know this from my own data Wink

the pics from your bunkers and the city are very great! I have read some articles about this battlefield and now i´m very interested in it Smile I love battles with big bunkers Wink I think i will miss the big german tanks biut infanteriefighting is very nice too. Smile

When do you think is the release? I thinik after your HDD crash it will be after afghanistan right?

Greatings!

Hey Wittmann,

HD Crash is indeed very Bad Wink I can't really give an eta because i have to manage some problems wich are seriously delaying me... i hope to be able to release before i leaver to uruzgan. But the way i'm looking at it right now i fear the worst...

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the support. I have only 1 small news update... this week i succeeded to get another 2 maps done wich would mean (from the top of my head) 2 more maps (Cadzand and Antwerp) to do and 1 more (Middelburg) to update.

Hey Squadleader_id,

I've recently returned to the netherlands after my tour in afghanistan. I'd expected to have my data but sadly enough it hasn't been deliverd. I have spoken with Dima about it he told me he had it finished. But he coudn't deliver it to me because he was in Hospital. Havn't heard from him. I was able to find out what was wrong with my stratmap. So it is a matter of recieving a good working data set so i can complete all pictures and detailing work.

Hello Buck,

Im looking forward to this one, it looks very very promising..

I was wondering if Merksem and Deurne will be included, its directly north of Antwerp and the Canadians liberated Merksem on the 3d of october '44, a month after Antwerp and after bloody streetfights before they where able to cross the Albertcanal/Scheldt..i was wondering because i live in Merksem and it would be very great to have them included..i dont know at what date the mod will start though, im sorry if it is allready said in this forum but i didnt find it.. Wink

Hey Pzt_Decoy,

Thanks for the intrest in the mod Wink No i have to dissappoint you at the moment but both Merksem and Deurne aren't included in the mod at this moment... but the following belgian maps are currently planned to be made for an eventual cc5 rerelease project:

Merksem (area between Ir Menneslaan and Ijzerenlaan)
Kapelle (area around the train station)
Maria ter Heide (the Old AT Ditch)
Essen (North West Corner of the town)
Kalmthout (the heathland to the Nort West)
Sint Lennearts (Canal Crossing)
also Watervliet and Hoeke are in my intrest. But this is all future planning i first need to get a fully functional mod...

Hi Buck,

how long do you stay in afghanistan? Six months?

I stayed there four months in Feyzabad. Where were you?

To you mod ... how many maps will you mod have?

What do you mean with "cc5 rerelease project"? Do you mean a rerelease of your mod, second part? Or a rerelease of cc5 by matrix for excample? Confused

greatings
