its about how 2 week trained volentire 'ad hock' infantry from the 39th batallion stoped highly trained,thus far unstoppable japanese'tanaki' infantry in the massive jungle hills in 1942.

it is not a love story.

its is all based on fact, no bullshit,no glory,little or no special effects, just the real story.
imagine sitting in the wet jungle, armed with .303 lee enfield No1mk3*, with a 19" bayonet, 50 rds,dissantry from bully beef and hard tack biscuits, malaria and highly trained japs attacking with mmg and morter support.....

it said at the premier last night it has world wide release.
i remember last year or so ago parts where filmed in the blue mountains.
yes i had wet eyes at the end speach.....

An incredibly realistic film, very authentic and wonderfully accurate. It would have been a little better with a bigger CG budget (most of the CG is the tracers whizzing convincingly through the jungle) Maybe a wide shot of Port Moresby buzzing with activity would have given a better sense of place. But in reality this is a stand alone calassic Australian independant war film and a must see for fans of small unit tactics. Great to see the bren in action, ever so loud and mean looking on the big screen. The Thompson stuffing up due to the the conditions ( the amazing Owen gun was yet to be introduced) was typical of the era, as was the lack of resources for that part of the campaign.

One Australian film to look forward to is LONG TAN. The long awaited David Williamson script ( Gallipoli, Phar Lap, Don's Party) is moving along, after taking over from Louis Nowra. Basically the only Australian Vietnam war film since the 'Odd Angry Shot'(1979) it chronicals the incredible story of 108 Australian and New Zealnd soldiers holding off 2500 veteran Vietnamese. Cut off in a rubber plantation in the pouring rain, night falls on a chaotic and deadly sustained fire fight. An interesting story of Australian perserverance.

One point of interest was the the presence of the Owen Gun during this battle. The rain was so heavy it actually provided cover for the pinned down Australians. One by one the M16's and FN FAL SLR's started jamming from the mud and water. Luckily the Owen Gun, by now a relic from world war 2 famously kept firing, as it was deigned to do, in all conditions.
