It all depends on the circumstance.

Do you have problems conecting to GameSpy?
Can you connect to GameSpy, but just can't host or join Close Combat games?
What kind of connection do you have? Modem, Cable, DSL?
What exactly isn't working for you with GameSpy?

And yes GameSpy is the best place to find other players to play Stalingrad and other CC5 games.

my problem, otherwise I'd certainly be signing up for Clash of Steel, is that I only seem to be able join games and when I do get through I lose the remote connection. I assume it has to do with my firewall, which causes my external ip to be different from my internal ip. I still can't figure out a way around it.[/i]

Well, now I'm faced with a new problem. When I type "admin" and "password" like you say and hit "okay", it refreshes the login window w/o the password it also appears to be taking a lot of time loading a page. Is there another way to do this or perhaps a way I can determine the password and user name?

What he tried to tell you was:

Connect to the admintool of your router and set the mentioned ports to be forwarded to your machine.

I'm just gonna call it quits on this and just join other people's games. There aren't enough english guides on the web for my problem and now the thing's telling me that the IP address is another system's.

The problem (as I see it) is that I'm one of three computers on the network and I'm one of two users on the computer. So when I goto cmd prompt I see:

C:\Documents and Settings\User\

instead of regular old C:\. I haven't figured out how to get to the regular old C:\, even though I'm the administrator user. (My IP turns out to be a ridiculously large number for the end digit).

I have trouble with game spy too. Would anybody on here like to play using IP? I am sick of just fighting the computer.

There are many players at GameSpy willing to play with TCP or UDP connection. However, you need to go to GameSpy's CloseCombatV or III room in order to find them.

Connection is one of the tricky issue. It requires you to open 2 sets of ports on your router. CloseCombat needs you to forward 3 ports.
TCP: 47624
TCP: 6073
TCP: 2300 ~ 2400
UDP: 2300 ~ 2400

Then, GameSpy requires you to port fowarding another set of ports.
* 6667 (IRC)
* 3783 (Voice Chat Port)
* 27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
* 28900 (Master Server List Request)
* 29900 (GP Connection Manager)
* 29901 (GP Search Manager)
* 13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
* 6515 (Dplay UDP)
* 6500 (Query Port)

One things I would like to say is, nothing beats when playing another real human player on the other end. Boy, I have seen enough ppl asking the same question, I better add this to the Tech Help area.
