Mac started it... again. Now I have to finish it.

Carteret 3 day op. No air support for allies.
Facing the german 1049th.

My shermans went in trading blows with the stugs. At one point chasing off a damaged stug.
Hitting it again and again as it fled but but still the stug escaping back behind his line.
They're hunting in pairs and my 75mm Shermans were quickly proving no match.

Spreading my line in the second day yielded no gains and only more headaches going h2h with german armor.

The stugs ripping through my line like paper. Allied armor barely slowing the german blitzkrieg. Luftwaffe with another lethal strike.

Only one stug killed so far. 3 remain. My short reserve of M4's quickly depleted. Only 3 remain for the final day and a half of fighting.
At this pace it would never be enough.

Afternoon of day 2.
Concentrated allied attack confronts the germans head on.
Another 2 M4's and an M8 are lost dueling with the germans. One stug KIA.

Allies force a bulge in the german line, 2 allied survivors finally breaking through but cowered and surrended before capturing the Hotel.
This map is shrinking and my armor is gone

Day 3 remains

The Germans have held up well so far, but have been dealing with very aggressive US tactics as hordes of endless infantry come smashing over the hedges. There's been almost no action around the buildings, it's all been hedges and close in fighting with mg's, pistols, and lobing grenades.

Meanwhile I've been sneaking and picking my way ever so carefully through the hedges with not too much to show for it, other than holding the line and picking off Allied armor when ever possible.

Wruff's last enmass attack left a StuG damaged and one destroyed (never to return), so we are each down to 1 tank apiece now.

We are into our final day... anythings possible.

--------

Day 3.
Morning of the final day I lost my AT support early in my assault force so didn't push too hard in the face of that last stug standing guard. Hold my ground and save it for the final offensive.

--------

FINAL BATTLE:
Concentrated assault to the west. Straight up the gut.

Enemy ATG goes down right away.
German teams expose themselves returning fire on my 57mm gun and get forced off their line, making way for my teams crossing the road.

There's that last bloody Stug moving in to get behind the allied advance. Sherman backs off...
Soldier Juliano doing a hell of a job at the strong point.
After his comrades had fallen after capturing the Strong Point he himself held off a german counter assault.
Now he's only got a few rounds left for that BAR.
Then he turned and chucked some grenades at that Stug moving by.

The Stug didn't get his shot at my sherman,
so moves forward into LOS of my 57mm which immob the stubborn stug, then destroyed it...

Juliano moves down and captures the strong point and holds off another german counter-assault as another allied team moves into position behind him.

I'm thinking I just may have evened the score or even won this thing...
Think again.
Germans: 15 points
Allies: 14 points

>Sad

And that damn Perriers VL was so close but just out of reach as time expired.
Great fighting Mac! Cool

Excellent Op, Wruff! I tell you, I would have been pissed if I had lost this thing seeing what you had in the East: one damned bar team! Learned my lesson - put those stosstruppen and pioniere teams into action!
(I just didn't want to write a lot of letter's home to for those brave men.) Wink
