I know that this has been covered before, but after doing several searches I could not find the solution. I uninstalled CCV some time ago an evidently something is still on my hard drive.

Are there any solutions apart from cleaning the registry? Can I override this error somehow?

If not, how to I clean the registry of CCV files safely?

Ctrl+F Close Combat. Delete anything that relates to CC5. Worked fine here. In the registry of course.

I deleted all of the cc5 files (as far as I could tell) and I am still getting that error.

try browse regedit...

search for "mattel", "close combat" and delete all keys manually...

the folder that survived uninstall is not the problem here...

otherwise: just copy the whole Cd into the correct folder (C:\program files\SSI...

and apply a mod. I managed to get cc5 working without a reg entry...
(note: wont work on all computer)

Make sure all of the following registries are deleted:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SSI\Close Combat Invasion Normandy
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mattel Interactive\Close Combat\5.00
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mattel Interactive\Close Combat\5.01
